AMEX ED/EDP/BCE/BCP/etc. Amazon Prime Code Question

What's up party people? I just got the code for one free year of Amazon Prime for spending $1,000 on my EveryDay card. The question I have (chat isn't popping up and I have things to do) is does the free year of Prime start when you receive the code or when you redeem it? (e.g.) Can I save the code for next year and get 2016 free? FYI I haven't tried redeeming it at all yet. Just came on to post this immediately after seeing the email.

Alex: It will start once you redeem it.
you: Does the code have an expiration date?
you: Am I able to redeem it whenever I want?
Alex: Promotional codes are good for one-time use only and must be redeemed by 8/31/15.

I would imagine entering it on your Amazon account would start the promotional period at the end of your current subscription.

It doesn't -- you just have to use the CODE by Auguest 31st of this year. (According to the CSR.)

+1 Use the code, then whenever your present Amazon Prime membership runs out, a new free year of Prime will begin, courtesy of Amex.
