AMEX FHR and AMEX Offers

I am planning a trip to Las Vegas in November and was looking at staying at the Waldorf Astoria. I know that I may not get my Hilton status recognized but the FHR benefits seem to be better at the Waldorf Astoria and when you factor in the 125 dollar property credit, it turns out to be cheaper than booking direct with Hilton. I also have an AMEX offer of "Spend $350 get $70 back at Waldorf Astoria" but the AMEX offer makes it seem like you may have to book direct, and that the $350 has to be spent on room rates. My question is can I book through FHR (To get those benefits) but instead of paying through FHR (I know doing this will cause me to lose the 5x points through AMEX Travel), can I choose to pay at the hotel and still be able to take advantage of the AMEX Offer? Seems like you would have to read the fine print on both FHR and the AMEX offer to clarify.

You have Hilton Gold through the Platinum card. I doubt you would lose that recognition regardless. Signing up for the AMEX offer, and staying at the eligible hotel paid with that AMEX I would guess should work.

Worst case is you don’t quite get the AMEX offer completed and just have a really nice time in Vegas. Don’t get so caught up in optimizing stacked rewards that you miss the point of high-end travel.

If you book through Amex Travel Concierge, you can get the FHR benefits and can get the $70 offer when the charge goes through because you pay the hotel directly. You can also ask you Hhonors number attached to your booking (I don’t know if you’ll get points), but you’ll have that additional status.

This is the exact wording from the terms and conditions, " Reservations for Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts must be made online at waldorfastoria.com, via the Hilton Honors App, or by calling 1-800-925-3673." Which according to that it seems pretty black and white but I chatted with an AMEX rep and he verified that if I prepaid through FHR then it would post as FHR and I would receive the 5x points but if I waited to pay at the hotel then it would indeed post as Waldorf Astoria. He did NOT say that I would be able to redeem the AMEX offer but the rest of the terms and conditions would apply to this situation, it is just that one sentence that is tripping me up. I am trying not to get too bogged down on stacking rewards and I know regardless that I will have a great time in Las Vegas. Thank you again for the help.
