AMEX Granted CLI rather than hitting the LUV button?

I've read several postings about people hitting the luv button for AMEX CLI's but has anyone ever just waited on AMEX to grant a CLI on their own?

I have a 2 month old account with them, was given a $1K CL on Blue Cash conversion.  I don't want to press my luck with asking for a CLI too soon.  Do they grant CLI's without prompting from the cardholder?  If so, how long did it take for AMEX to give a CLI on their own?

Don't want to ask for CLI now and chance my account being frozen and not be able to use it for Christmas.

I would definitely wait until you've been with them at least 6 months before you try for another CLI.

I have not really heard of Amex giving CLI without asking... I'm sure it happens but I think it's rare. and from this forum, people have asked for first CLI after 30 days of having account.  and with the exception of the new post that he is FR at 2500 limit, most have been reporting they didn't get hit with FR until they cleared 25k limit, so I wouldn't worry about hitting luv button now and having account froze.

Amex grants CLIs very generously provided your CBR is at least 650 and above.  Sometimes they do it just a few months away from the previous CLI.  I've seen accounts jump from 3500 to 15,000 and beyond without barely any account activity.

Re: AMEX Granted CLI rather than hitting the LUV button?

Just to clarify, I have not received, nor asked, for a CLI since I've had my AMEX.  I was approved for $1K with the Delta Gold and converted to Blue Cash. My CL is still $1K and I've had the account 2 mos.

I would assume that Amex has been softing you monthly since you got your new card. This seems to be their pattern with new customers to make sure that you haven't gone berserk and run up 20 cards to their limits.

If you have your other cards until control, and no disasters have suddenly appeared on your credit reports, and you have used and paid down or off your new AmEx several times, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I think you'll get a CLI, especially if you've been using the card some, but the worst that should happen is that they will say no. The example of the poster on the other thread involves someone who says that he is maxed out on all his cards, carrying a new mortgage, and looking for any additional credit he can find. Unfortunately, that's a sad situation and a sure recipe for an AmEx F/R.

Re: AMEX Granted CLI rather than hitting the LUV button?

I have had my AMEX Blue Cash for 2 months now.  They gave me 2K and I have not asked for any CLIs.  No softs by AMEX either.

Re: AMEX Granted CLI rather than hitting the LUV button?

About 8 or 9 years ago, without my request, AMEX raised the credit limit on my Optima Platinum by about $2400(?).  But that was back in the late 1990s--I have no idea if they still do that nowadays.  I do know that they haven't automatically given me a CLI since then.
