Re: HILTON HH-H-HONORS

This is all so strange to me- the prestige of a CC.

My husband is in finance, his speciality is working with emerging markets. Currently he's working with Saudi financial and government institutions to allow investors outside of the emirates.

To him, a H Honors card is a joke. He wouldn't stay at one if you paid him. He'll only fly business and his company puts him up in hotels that charge 1k and over per night.

His lowest limit card is his AMEX blue and he hardly uses it.

My parents on the other hand are immigrants. To them, when they got their first CC in the 80's, that was prestigious. Just having someone believe they were credit worthy, regardless of the CL they received was enough to make them ecstatic.

For me, there's no such thing as a prestigious card. I just want a good credit line, good cashback and low interest. It's all about utility.

I've never thought along the lines of prestigious when someone breaks out there card. I never look at the logo, the bank, notice if it's visa/mc or amex. I just don't care and I think I'm the norm in that sense. Most people will not notice.

I aggree with you on that.

But the people who hang out here are not the norm, most here do notice.

For many here, credit is a interest, hobby or obsession.   For others, it is just sharing needed information.

Re: HILTON HH-H-HONORS

i agree with slugfan. i too am interested in this card because it is the one of the few cards other then the blue/clear cards that have no AF. and to me it is more rewarding and more valuable than the spg card. i don't plan to say at a hotel that much anyway.

to me it is a hobby/obsession. it might not be of much value to others but to me it means a great deal. it means i can be trusted to handle money, and the amex hilton honors expresses this in such a glorified fashion.

when someone oohs and ahhs when i open my wallet, to me that is a priceless moment. this is pure energy for me, the reaction of prestige. i am sure there are alot of people like this, though they wouldn't be too open about it. i thrive on the attention i hope to receive.

i love to see the expression of envy and desire when it comes to something i have done or something i have. i don't make six figures, so this is my way of making up for it.

we live in a crumbling economy where lucrative jobs only go to those who are willing to step on others. credit cards are my way of expressing myself without actually having the opportunity to create wealth for myself, and without having to compromise my personal values of respect for others.

so maybe my cards aren't really as prestigious as an amex black. so what, most people who see me with an amex hilton hhonors, chances are they dont have the knowledge to realize my prestige isn't really that much prestige. that ok with me. i get to keep the illusion alive and enjoy the expression of desire and envy from others.
