AMEX MR rules?

Hey Folks,

I am getting ready to take the dive with the plat for the 100k MR and hopefully the gold not far behind, then eventually the the Schwab plat.

Can someone remind me the MR point restrictions on SUBs? Time between card openings to receive MR SUBs? I thought they just updated it and maybe 24 months? Hope not but figured Id ask. Thanks!

When you plan things out, might want to take upgrade into consideration as well: you can also get upgrade offer (gold->plat) during the period where the plat is closed but gold still open, then after upgrading that and if you have the green card open you might get an offer to upgrade green to gold.

There is no 'Time between card openings to receive MR SUBs' rule for different cards but as you probably know for the same card there's no getting MR the second time (once per lifetime). Thus might not be a good idea to take any upgrade offer until you've got the SUB for the cards you are upgrading to.

Sounds good, thanks!

I will be new to AMEX so I definitely don't have any laying in wait, however, good looking out as I didn't know about the upgrade offers.

Re: AMEX MR rules?

Indeed there is no "24 month rule" with Amex like the Chase Sapphire cards and Citi ThankYou cards.  They have been cracking down a bit on welcome offers to those who are obvious churners (and some who seem to just be collateral damage), but otherwise you should be fine.  The once-in-a-lifetime rule applies to each specific card, so having a Platinum does not prevent you from getting a SUB on the Ameriprise Platinum or Business Platinum, and getting an EveryDay card does not prevent you from getting a bonus on an EveryDay Preferred card just for a few examples.
