I've had the AMEX Platinum for about 5 years. Recently did a PC to Green until they can reposition themselves to be worth the $450 AF. But I always wondered when I would see that I had $30k available for Pay Over Time, I would put like $6k on Pay Over Time, then they would lock me out of the rest of the available credit line. This happened twice at different years. My thought was, why say I have $30k available for Pay Over Time when you really don't mean it. Just say you have a once per year allowance and whatever you put on Pay Over Time, that's all you get. I even called once and they confirmed that I had $30k to place on Pay Over Time. Whatever balance I put on Pay Over Time, I aways paid it off within 6 months. I just thought that was confusing and unnecessary to put on the account page how much you have available to put on Pay Over Time and that not be the case. Has anyone else experienced this?
Alot of lenders give you big CL's just not POT like amex, but they don't want you to use it all.. Kinda confusing to me.. They should just approve you for what they feel comfy with risk wise for the indvidual. Instead of a "feel good" number that they really don't want you near...

This is exactly why Amex could never be number 1 in my wallet. I must admit they give great limtis and grow with you. But honestly i think it is all for show. Fluff and Puff in other words. AS with the AA from my Brother. In anycase I would be afraid to use amex out of the country even with huge limit as they may take action since that is not my normal pattern. But to me my patterns change all the time. What i did yesterday would not be what i do tomorrow. In anycase. I gave up on the POT> and glad of it. They are just so wicky washy there is no way to know what part of a limit you can actually use. Even on a normal revolver. I will just keep them on a short leash just for my util purposes.
