Good Morning Community!
I'm wondering if I should app for the AMEX Plat today in case they indeed do raise the AF tomorrow as has been speculated. Does anyone have any experience with whether or not they will charge the higher AF if they change the ToC a day after approval, i.e. before you receive and activate the card? One of the reasons I'm hesitant to apply is because I know from experience that I'm not good with canceling a card after the first year. I had every intentions of doing that when I got my IHG card, and never did it. For now, the benefits still outweigh the AF as long as I use the card. So I figure I'd prolly still have this card come year two with a hefty AF. Although, please correct me if I'm wrong, I thought I read somewhere that said tha AMEX will refund the AF if you close the card within 30days of charge? Also, does anyone have any experience with how AMEX codes Instacart? I currently do most of my Costco shopping through Instacart and would assume that this would qualify as a Supermarket, since most of their stores are grocery stores, but would like to confirm if possible. I also use another grocery delivery service, Mercato, and wonder if they would qualify as well?
Have a great day everyone and TIA!
It's actually illegal for any bank to increase the AF for the first year. So to answer you question, if you sign up and it's currently a $550 AF, they cannot increase it until after the first year.
Ahhhh, didn't know that. Thanks for the info @jcooks!
