I read about this the other day and tested it with a $50 Southwest purchase. It was credited within 2 days. Just put in a $150 and waiting for that one. I've read that it's easier to get them from Southwest than it is for Delta or any of the others.

I think 100 or less gets credited.  I got two 100 hundred dollar gift certificated and they were both approved 2 days later.

Update on mine because I was waiting for a credit at the time for my $150 Southwest gift card. Took about 5 days from date of original transaction but then I got the credit for the $150. Was worried it wouldn't post but had read on another website that people had gotten them approved for that.

They don’t have to be $100 or less.  I’ve been credited multiple times for $200 gift cards

Re: AMEX Platinum Airline Credit

Can someone tell me exactly how to get gift cards and through which airlines. I'm just getting my Platinum (and PRG) card and have no idea how to go about extacting the airline fee for later use. When I google it, it's confusing because I read this airline works, oh now it doesn't, sign up for a gift registry, send yourself a gift. Huh? Wha?  Can someone break it down plainly so that even I can understand?  I'd be SO grateful. Thanks.

Starting Score (May 2017): 584 TU
Current Scores: 752 TU, 717 EQ, 750 EX

Unfortunately anyone responding to you is going to be writing data that is quickly outdated.  Amex does change their reimbursement process, and forums are a poor method for explaining it as they change.  Your best bet is to find a website dedicated to travel rewards and read, read, read.  Take note DAILY of new posts and commentary, because data points are shared in the comments and will update people to what is currently working.  Older posts and comments may not be timely and may be outdated.

Re: AMEX Platinum Airline Credit

No surprise there, rewards-chasing isn't easy and it doesn't come freely.

Remember, if you use the card as designed, you'll get that credit from just buying luggage or alcohol or seat assignments or whatever it's for.  Since you're trying to game the system (and I support gaming the system), Amex will constantly be working to un-game your gaming, which is why it's a headache.

Those who use the credit as intended don't have these issues, but then again we're here to play the game, they aren't.

I skipped Platinum this year because I ran calculations and couldn't meet the spend required to get the credit in time.  I'll get Platinum next year at some point, but I am calculating when the right time is to pounce on it.
