More importantly, since Amex is limiting bouses to 1 per lifetime, I'm holding out for a 100k offer on the Platinum. I just know I'd be kicking myself if I went for the Ameriprise deal and two months down the road Amex put out a sweeter offer.
According to a post on FT this 100k Platinum offer is available whenever you want it.. all you have to do is call and say the right words. lol (see post on FT.) Think there's a 10k min spend though.
What is the secret code?lol

There isn't a secret code. lol It's questionable ethically.. they say to call that you don't have your offer that came in the mail for 100k MR for the Platinum and was wondering if it's still available for you. There really wasn't one unless one actually did get lost in the mail, of course. lol

I assume this have worked? And can they, amex, deny you if they say you weren't invited from the get go?

So they don't bother to check if you got the offer (or are unable to check)?

You are right! I think I will wait for the 100K offer of it do come anytime soon? Didn't it come out around fall last year? I might be wrong though.
The one he's speaking of usually is a personal invitation that comes in the mail.
I actually called because my PRG AF is about to hit and they offered me 50k to upgrade with $5k spend, but said I didn't have any offers for 100k. Even if it were $10k spend, I'd probably take the bait. 50k just isn't worth it to me for a lifetimne - let alone 25k.

I'm not sure, but from the post I read it seemed to imply that they were just looking at a list of available offers in general and matched it to the one in the computer and said they could have that offer. What took me so long was trying to find those posts regarding it. Still haven't found it yet.
"Worth" is subjective. For some, slapping the AMEX platinum down and letting the world know they have one, is "worth" the annual fee alone.
For others, they have to make back the annual fee, so they may use airline lounges, get reimbursed air incidentals, get access to the premium car rental insurance, get their fee reimbursed for the Customs fast entry card, get access to exclusive events, and performing this cost-benefit analysis mathematically to see if it is "worth" it to them.
You have to ask yourself why do you want it, to tell the world "you've made it" when you slap that card down or something more defined in terms of getting the investment back.

Both
The latter makes financial sense and as I've outlined earlier, you should easily "make back" the annual fee is you are an avid traveler.
More and more though, the former appeals to me too. Stupid, but what can I say?
I was looking at the terms and benefits, reimbursement for global entry fees or TSA Pre fees is a nice perk. I've been meaning to do this for awhile. So deducting that $100 plus the waived AF for the first year PLUS all of those benefits, sounds like a good deal!
