AMEX Pre-Qualified - Timing and Recurring Attempts

This is something that crossed my mind, as I haven't used Pre-Qual's very efficiently in the past.

I plan to apply for the AMEX BCP in a couple of months after I reduce my UT% on a 0% promo card.

Will likely be in a 3-card spree.... ABoC UnionStrong (EX), Amex BCP (EX), and ........TBD.  I plan to do ABoC first as I've read they may possibly be inquiry/account sensitive, then the (TBD) card which among my choices will likely be a (EQ) pull, then the Amex BCP last because I understand they aren't very sensitive to INQ/accounts.

How early can you test the pre-qualify page?

How often can you do the pre-qualify? Will your results change over the course of a 2 month period as you improve your score/UT% or is it a one-time shot and done?

Should I check this early, or wait until I'm close to pulling the trigger?

Thanks in advance for the input.....!

You can check all you want. Pretty sure it's a new SP every time. It's not until you're in with amex where you have to be more strategic. They'll SP you monthly and it'll typically be 1-2 months behind. Your new apps and CLI attempts will be based off it.

So when time comes for my 3x CLI (91 days correct?) they will base that off a SP that occured a month or two prior?

Possibly. I didn't pay attention to that until later. My last 2 cards were approved off my November score which was 627 because of the high utilization from Christmas. Totally forgot about the delay and forgot to check before applying. Luckily, they were approved, but I'm pretty sure it's why my Platinum limit is so low. I apped in January, btw.

So then it would be a good guess that if I were to Pre-Qualify now, then when I actually pull the trigger beginning of May or so, then they would use the score they pulled today?

No, they would hard pull the day of application. That's the score they use. Also want to note that I've never been pre-approved or prequaled for their cards. I cold app.

Any particular reason why?

Re: AMEX Pre-Qualified - Timing and Recurring Attempts

I check the pre qual for Amex daily.  Does not hurt you.   If it doesn't say "pre approved" then I don't apply.   If it says "Expanding" I don't waste the time but in all you can check every hour if you want it will not hurt anything.   Things will change as far as you being approved or not just with your credit scores to be honest.
