Re: AMEX Pre-Qualified - Timing and Recurring Attempts

I'm not sure if the Pre Qual works if you don't already have an Amex card.  I have 6 of them but after my first one I was able to check daily no hard pull just soft

You do not need a prequal to get an Amex. Dont overthink it. Know your profile, know your Experian score and go for the card you want most first. Go from thereSmiley Wink

Yeah I know, I get it...I tend to overthink credit steps alot. It's just my first steps in the water with Amex. Just wondered if checking the Pre-Qual would do any good, would do any harm, would just satisfy my ego.....or whatever.

My scores are in the 730's currently, will be higher once some of the UT% drops over the next month or two. Super clean profile.....I'm just very cerebral when it comes to credit, a little too much sometimes.

You'll just  have to cold apply like I did and keep your fingers crossed.   I always hear the Delta cards are the easiest not sure how true that is.

Any particular reason why?

I don't meet their lending criteria? 😂

The only time I saw I was pre-approved was when I apped the Platinum Delta and gold charge together. For a short time after I was pre-approved for all of their cards. Now, I'm not. It won't stop me. When I need to, I'll apply for the bonvoy. I just wrapped up the SUBs on those two and paid one off. Once I pay the other one off, I'll probably go fishing.

Re: AMEX Pre-Qualified - Timing and Recurring Attempts

Have you tried their business cards?   I have the Green, Gold and Plat including the Blue Preferred & Everyday Cash (all personal cards) all gotten within the last year.  After I got the Green, Gold, Plat & Everyday Blue (got all these within a 2 week time span in Feb) I haven't been pre approved for anything.  Took a chance and applied for the Green Business card last night and got approved for it......BAM!!!!!!

I check the pre qual for Amex daily.  Does not hurt you.   If it doesn't say "pre approved" then I don't apply.   If it says "Expanding" I don't waste the time but in all you can check every hour if you want it will not hurt anything.   Things will change as far as you being approved or not just with your credit scores to be honest.

Are you talking about "Special Offer for you" when you are logged into your account? Otherwise I am not sure I see the words "pre-qualified" when I am on there.

I totally get it, I'm the same way lol. Prequals can change from one week to the next, so it can be hard to plan it out based on today's results. I had varying prequal results when I was first deciding which AMEX I wanted to apply for. Based on your current stats, I think you're golden now, so your prospects should only get better once you get utilization down.

What do you mean by "Expanding"?  I've never seen this.

Thanks.

Peace!
