AMEX Questions

Hey guys,

I just paid off an old AMEX account. It was my oldest account, went into collection in 1999, dropped off of my credit a while back. However, since I actually owed this account, I called the Oasis number and made the payment for the full amount.

Questions I have as follows:

1) Since account has been paid, will it show up on my credit? If so, will it show up as my oldest account like nothing ever happened?

2) I declined the Oasis Optima Card offer. However, I was told I can apply any AMEX card 30 days after my payment has been posted on the account. Any truth to that? Any success stories?

3) If I apply for an AMEX Card, I would like Blue Cash or Platinum Charge Card or no AMEX at all, and declined, should I try another AMEX? If so, each time I apply for an AMEX, do I get hard inquiry for each application?

4) Did anyone receive an AMEX with my score range? If so which card(s)?

My Fico Scores as of 3/31/08 are as follows:

EX 636 EQ 690 TU 671

Experian only has 1 collection from 7 months ago and no lates or any derogatory info at all, I have been trying to PFD but no luck so far. This is from 2002, and will be dropping off in 2009 and without any notifications or letters at all suddenly showed up on my credit 7 months ago. Do you think this will have any effect on my possible future AMEX application? My Utilization is ZERO percent.

Thanks for any answer, comment or suggestions.

Re: AMEX Questions

Good for you - taking care of this old account

IMO- I might have taken AMEX up on their Card offer (50% of the old balance)

Keep fighting the collection--

Having 0% UTL cost me 20 points-

My EX score was in the low 600's when I got my Delta- I had no collections though-

Agree with Timothy on all points.  Get your Util up to 1%.

I did have a 6.5 year-old collection on EX when I got my Delta.  My score was mid-600s at the time.

Re: AMEX Questions

Well, I guess it doesn't hurt to let one of the credit cards report a little balance. I'll do that for the next statement.

Thanks for the advice.

Not only does it not hurt, it actually helps.

I recently was checking out one of the threads and ran into that pre-approval link for AMEX cards.. I believe it involved a soft-pull and was pre-approved for a couple of AMEX Blue cards (Blue Cash and Blue Sky) and the Gold Preferred Rewards, I ended up applying for the Blue Cash and received a $1500 CL.. good for me since it matched my BOA visa which is my highest CL.. Thanks to this forum for all the information...
As of 3/27/08 my scores were EX 680, EQ 692, TU 659 ... No Baddies, Just High Util % but repairing it as we speak! Smiley Very Happy

Re: AMEX Questions

Excellent! I guess I will wait about a month until my payment is posted and do a pre-approval check on the link you provided.

Thank you for the info.

Re: AMEX Questions

Update:

I decided not to apply for an AMEX. If they reinstate my old account history that's fine, even if they don't I don't see the point of having an AMEX anymore.

I have 2 MC, 1 Visa and I think that's enough.
