The PRG has had a fee forever. The CCPs were courteous enough to even offer you any sort of credit; which, you refused. You got what you asked for....and a little more.
This is just so not FSR...
The MAJORITY of my replies have been in the approvals section -congratulating those people as well as learning along the way. That should say something.
True, but not everything we think must be said out loud. Sometimes it's appropriate to just shake your head and move quietly on.
Youre absolutely right!! Especially when Im posting in the Approvals, LMAO!!!!
ok, remember this is about the OP, not me, LOL
Just trying to throw in a little humor here..lighten it up in

oh a side note...
not meaning this disrespectful in anyway OP, but...you knew the card has an AF when you applied for it. It goes with the territory, especially AMEX PG's.
If you don't want any AF CC's, just don't apply in the future for cards that have one..problem solved, and you don't have to waste yours or the CSR's time. Most of them don't have the authority anyways to remove the AF, and just transfer you to someone who can, and that person who can will look at your history with them and basically laugh.
No offense again....just, there are way more folks out there who put mega spend on their PRG's , and $950 is pocket change.
Hope things look up for you...
+1 Pizza1, everyone has the freedom to choose whether they get an annual fee card or not. I spend quite a bit on my Platinum card (converted PRG) and haven't even thought once about asking for a fee waiver, wondering if I should. I just take it as it being part of "the credit game."

I like that!! I'll make sure to keep that in mind.
LMAO at some of the replies -especially the PICS!!!!!
I'm DONE with this thread! I will no longer open it to see the newest replies! Thanks to that user who I answered twice to...!
It would be nice if the OP would come back and clarify the issues brought up in some of the responses.
Sorry OP that this happen to you
A lot of the things you mentioned didn't come from this site I assure you probably one of those other sites you visit
1) we tell everyone never ever threaten a lender to close a card if you can't get what I want....No incentive and honestly an ultimatum which usually leads to either party not feeling helpful/friendly only the lender has the ultimate power/decision
2) you spent an average of $79.16 per month on a high level spend/travel card that had the AF waived for the 1st year which in all reality had a bonus 25k/50 for 1k/2k spend You failed to spend enough for that so in all honesty this was not the card for you ....sorry but true.....bad selection
3) sometimes we need to do basic math before we make rash decisions/sleep on it. You were offered $75.00
Breakdown of what you didn't see and they tried to please a customer
$195 year 2 -
retention offer $75
=$120
which is less than the standard gold card
-$100 airline credit
=$20 second year cost .....
All I can say is SMH
If you had $20 in points which is something else we say never ever do.....close a card before redeeming points or transferring .....You could have potentially not owed a fee this year as well
Now as far as scores go trust me there's more at play here than the card in question ....most likely UTL, a lot of INQ's or a new baddie IMHO
Again sorry but learn from this mistake and apply for only the cards that fit your profile and spend and if not sure feel free to ask before making moves and being pi**ed
I just want to be sure I'm following along properly. Sooooo the OP closed a card because the issuer wouldn't credit an annual fee and is upset because its reporting as a closed account?

Sort of. They're upset because they thought it wasn't supposed to report as closed yet, and they're assuming that it caused a large score drop.
OP,
I've closed 4 cards for various reasons in the past 6 months. I recieved a temporary drop because of utilization while waiting for the new statements to cut. After my balances & correct limits I actually recieved an increase. There are many factors to consider before closing an account:
1. How this is going to impact me by utilization (like others have pointed out charge cards don't factor but credit cards DO factor in utilization).
2. If you are going to close a card don't close your oldest ones (unless there is a good reason, AF or the difference between your oldest and next card isn't by much) REASON: this doesn't affect you in the SHORT TERM but in the LONG TERM once cards start aging off it will impact your AAOA.
3. ALSO your entire credit file. Remember changes that won't affect someone with a THICK-LONG File may dramatically impact someone with a short file and a couple of accounts.
Now my FICO scores quickly recovered and came back by a few point increase; however, my CREDITKARMA scores seen a drastic increase. I'm pretty sure it's because the accounts I closed were realitively new and it helped my AAOA on my vantage scores. My recommendation to you would be not to use your energy on what you can't change like closing the card but FOCUS your energy to actually find the real reason for the drop because 84 pt decrease definately means something else is at play here. Good Luck & Please UPDATE US Soon... Stuff like this on MYFICO usually makes me look like the guy in the pic until we find out why or a couple days pass whichever one happens first
Not sure why several people keep referring to utilization in this score drop. The PRG is a charge card and in no way affects utilization so closing it would not affect his Fico scores one bit.
