AMEX Upgrade?

I noticed Amex keeps allowing me to upgrade Delta Gold to Platinum or Reserve also they are giving me the option with Hilton. Now does AMEX in the past do a CL increase also at the same time with this upgrades or just the status?

Re: AMEX Upgrade?

Just status. Last year I upgraded my 1,000 CL Hilton Ascend (Surpass) to the Aspire. Even though it has a minimum $3,100 SL if you were to apply for the card, upgrading will still keep the old credit limit.

Is Amex offering you a bonus to upgrade? Unless you really get great value from new perks, it's usually worthwhile to wait for a good upgrade offer.

Example: I got an EveryDay Preferred in 2015 and got a modest MR bonus (15k?) for $1k or whatever in spend in three months. I downgraded to the no-AF EveryDay a year later.

A few weeks ago Amex sent me an offer to upgrade the card back to EDP. I get 25k MRs for $2k spend in 3 months.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

😂  You're not the first person that has gone through this.

I can't speak to how it might impact the ability to get SUB offers on other cards down the line but I've known of other people that have done this cycling before with the BCE-BCP pair where when enough time passed after a downgrade to a BCE AMEX would offer a bonus to upgrade again to a BCP.
