AMEX Using Old Credit Report...Will They Recon?

I applied for a business card and it seemed like i had a chance since it was in process....but then i checked online nad it was declined. The pdf letter thing from AMEX giving the reason for the denial was saying i got declined because of my FICO score. They are using a report from over a month ago though, and ive paid off balances on all but 2 of my cards and my utilization is down now. I dont know for sure id be approved but can they pull another soft pull and re-evaluate from my current report?

Any specific phone number you reccomend calling for this? Application status one? Executive one?

If you do a recon there is a good chance that they will do another hard pull, which would also give them a more recent FICO score.

I believe that you can REcon via the executive office #.

Check the backdoor number thread at the top of the credit card forum and call the executive offices. They may be able to manually review an updated copy of your CR with you.

yeah i called the number on the paper with the decline reason and the lady was nice but just "pul me on hold to check soemthing" then basically told me to get a copy of my credit report from experian and fax it to them and they will review it...which could result in another hard pull....i think i ll just try the executive office before i do that.

You may have to do that too with the exec. office but if you want that card and can afford the INQ (since they initially SP'ed) go for it!

Re: AMEX Using Old Credit Report...Will They Recon?

The executive office lady said she was gonna send it out for review and i should hear back in 24 hours...

She said its her understanding all applications have a hard pull with them regardless of if your a customer already or not....so im guessing she understands wrong? (I hope)

I made it clear that i didnt want a hard inquiry, and she insisted they would review the application manually so it wouldnt be a hard inquiry...

The status has been changed from "Declined" to "In Progress" so i guess that its being looked over.....hopefully it works out...would be really cool.

Good luck !! I hope that they don't have to do another hard pull but i would bet that it will probably end up that way. Also she was misinformed about the fact that HPs always occur ~ with denials for existing card members it is only a soft pull.
