Anyone have experience with AMEX approvals with a judgment on their report?

IMO it would best best to forget about Amex.  No chance of approval.   If you burn Amex they will never "forget about it".

I don't think this is accurate.

Amex has had, and might still (unpublished) methods for former customers who had chargeoffs and other unpaid balances to come in from the cold.  They have had their Optima program, and that might even still be offered as there were posts on other forums circa Dec 2011 regarding the program.

The gist of the Optima forgiveness program, was you pay your charge off in full, and in return for getting righteous with them, you get an Optima with a CL of half of what the CO was for.  Any company willing to do this, isn't blacklisting people forever, and it was a pretty creative way of getting people to pay old debts, and apparently worked in some cases.

Edit: re-read thread, wasn't Amex specifically... but yes, people can get approvals with black marks on their files.

Funny you say that.  That's how I ended up reaching for the Zync.  I called to inquire about the Optima program and was told they no longer had my info in their system for that program, encouraged me to app for a new card and transfered me to a rep to apply.

That sucks. All CSR's are going to try to influence you to app for new cards.

Re: AMEX Zync Denied.......Recon?

Yeah, I don't have any black marks with Amex (mine are all tax-lien related for the most part) but I've been trying to figure out the quickest route into their good graces for future backdating.

They have another "flyer" program with a pre-paid debit card: "Make Your Move" is how they're advertising it... though I have to laugh at their "Feels like Membership!" campaign tagline.

Nobody yet knows if it'll produce meaningful results for those of us in a building or rebuilding stage, but even I (who was one of the more vocal people pronouncing it's silliness on this forum) finally figured what the hell and am running a few hundred a month of my slush expenditures through there in the fantasty hope that it works.  If you can afford to give it a try for a few months without hurting the rest of your credit building process, might be worth trying for some limited period of time.

I jumped on board with that this morning Revelate.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

If you paid them back they may de denying for other reasons. Might be best to call in and speak to a credit analyst about it.

The reason for the decline was "legals" referring to the judgement on my file from three years prior.  The judgement was not AMEX but another party.  No other reasons were given.

I've seen Amex approvals where the applicant had a paid judgement of around 5 years, but not as recent as 3.

I had a AMEX green that was closed and eventually paid off back in like 2007-2008 AND I had a judgement that is showing unpaid because the creditor hasn't filed to update it, but the collection company for the judgment updated their entry on my report to paid. The judgement was from 2008. I got approved for my Zync in march 2011....but the judegment/collection was for eviction after I lost my job not a credit card so maybe that had something to do with it?

Current Debt Management:
$15k Trinity Financial Management (scheduled pay off late 2021)
$10k NFCU
$350/mth Bridgecrest Auto Loan
Goals: Pay off credit card debt & buy a new home before end of 2020

Long Term Debt:
Fed Loans - $150k
Navient - $100k

Taking a "if God don't do it, it won't get done..." approach to paying these off.

Maybe, honestly, when it comes to Amex, sometimes not even God knows Smiley Happy.

Re: pre-paid card - they were pretty quick at getting the trial deposits into my checking account, and it's probably the usual 3-day ACH window from verification (done late on 1/19).  I'm hoping to get the card funded and started in use this month, as pretty much the rest of my new tradelines will hit the seasoned mark at the same time six-seven months out in my case, and I'll see what they do with it.

I suspect if they're actually being up-front about things, they'll do a soft pull either at the 6 or 12 month mark (and maybe more regularly than that)... though they may be looking for me and others to run our lives through this card, which I flatly refuse to do so... Smiley Wink

I'm not sure, but Amex decisions are predicated more on their internal proprietary models than what's on the CRAs.  Perhaps, since you were a former cardmember, they have some spending data on you?  Or, they felt you showed character in making reparations?  I have no idea, but I'd imagine your being a former cardmember honoring his/her debt to them may play a factor.
