I had no idea the fuel surcharges were THAT bad now. Geez.

If i were to fly to london and am just flying coach i would think about doing UAL to london, i think fuel surcharges are like 5 dollars that i can handle lol

Really now...

Nice.

What's a good transfer partner for Italy? The wife's been wanting to go and visit the town her family originally came from.

I am not as familiar with MR partners as i am with UR but i do think you can probably do air italia since its a direct partner? I don't know about what the story with fuel surcharges are . I only picked up EDP recently so i don't really know what best partners are for MR. I think its 50k RT from US to italy , but not 100% sure about fuel surcharges.

Also another option is transfer to delta so you won't get charged any fuel surcharges, but depends on when you will go because can get quite expensive points wise.

I've got to build back my vacay time before then anyhow so it wont be for a while yet.

Are you only accumulating MR or  do you have another program ?

i don't know if you can do this but you can try one way with UR points with UAL maybe since no fuel surcharges and then one way using the MR to delta should be around 110k ish if everything works out per person. Math doesn't always work out tho so ymmv.

If AMEX comes through for the wife we'll have approximately 60,000 MR's and i'm gonna be on the lookout for a 100,000 MR Plat offer.

I'm planning a big trip to England next year and I'm wondering if this is possible:

- Transfer MR Points to Virgin Atlantic (or BA)

- Use those points for the flight and pay for the remainder of flight using an Arrival+ and use miles as credits (I plan on apping for it during the 40k sign up)

I haven't traveled often in the past and next year I will be doing so quite a bit. Is it even possible to pay for a portion of a flight using points transfrered the partner?

Any advice/answers would help Smiley Happy

Just an warning about transferring to either VA or BA , you will get hit with an lot fuel surcharges almost five hundred or six hundred worth just something to keep in mind. If you are flying first class then its not that big of an deal since you are getting pretty good value, if youare flying regular economy then its something to keep in mind because fuel surcharges almost equal half price of economy ticket.

I plan to fly first class.

Right now I'm mainly accumulating MR. I may try to pick up a CSP in the next couple of months for that bonus. Not sure though...Chase may not be a huge fan of my new accounts though so we will see.

I need to fly out of Europe and on award tickets. With Star Alliance it would be 400-600 USD in taxes, fees, surcharges and the airfare is like 200 USD only that is why I never use my LH miles...(60K to cover 200$ airfare is terrible) it is just not worth it. You might consider to use the Arrival miles instead if you want to fly with airlines that have the hefty surcharges. I am using Star miles on promo Business offers only and bite the bullet with the taxes if I can get a transatlantic ticket in C cl for 50K Smiley Happy

Just keep your eye out for bonus transfers to Delta if that ever happens. Another thing you can try and look for is 50k amex delta offers, since you can use delta to trasnfer alitalia. Good luck :-)
