Hey guys,
I applied for the AMEX PRG on the 1st of this month, got denied, so I called back and asked for manual review. So literally I was on the status check page hitting the "refresh" button like every few hours until a few days ago, the status updated saying "denied". Then I get the letter in the mail today with reasons for denial. Well, it just so happened that I went on the status page today and the app status is now back as "in progress". This happened to anyone? I'm totally confused so i'm on the phone still waiting for the past 20mins trying to get a hold of someone in the new account dept, but they must be super busy today. I'm crossing my fingers for something good.
I just got decl. last week also by AMEX. You probably couldn't do it now, but you already have Bloomingdales-next time why don't you try for their AMEX card? It MIGHT save you another HP later. That's what I'm going to try to do if I can get them or Macy's store cards.

Good luck!
I've read that the status page can be a little quirky. Best thing to do is call
+1
it happened to me my second app on the same day
Said pending review so I waited a day called in only to find out it was an instant approval and stuck in their computer system ..
Didn't ask me any questions other than my SS# to pull the app up. Told me sorry and offered to expedite for the inconvenience
Who issues them-the same bank that issues their store cards (Dept. Store Nat'l. Bank)? I hope so since Centurion already told me no. That would also explain the SP upgrade-for Macy's anyway.
UPDATE:
So I finally got a hold of someone in the New Acct Dept., and the reason why that the status went back to "in progress" is the fact that they received my credit report (faxed) along with a letter today. To break it down and make it easier to understand- Applied for the PRG on the 1st. Got denied on the 3rd, asked for 2nd review. Next day(4th), analyst wanted me to fax in my credit report along w/ a letter. Waited. On the 10th, status goes from "in progress" to "denied". Received my letter in the mail today with reasons. Check the status page and it went from "denied" back to "in progress" again. Well, it took them 8days to receive my fax & letter, but they already denied me on the 10th. But still they received the letter today, so they submitted another review for the PRG. Geez, i'm getting dizzy writing this down. But yea, this doesn't make sense to me at all..why would they want me to fax in my report when they're not going to even take a look at it and deny me before they receive the darn thing?

Bear in mind that the Bloomingdale's Amex is not an American Express-issued card. It's a Bloomingdale's-issued card that happens to work on the Amex network. (OK, technically issued by some made-up bank name that is a joint venture of Macy's/Bloomies and some major national bank, but you get the picture)
Consequently, it won't get you the benefits of backdating. It won't build any history with American Express to help you get the Amex you really want. It won't even come with many of the benefits that are standard on most Amexes like purchase protection.
If you want a foot in the door with Amex, the only cards that are going to build you up in their internal scoring are the ones you can find on the AmericanExpress.com website. Other cards may have Amex logos on them, but they are not true Amexes.
Lexie,
On the 4th, the analyst just said to fax in my credit report from the date of applying (which was the 1st), I didn't really ask him why...at the moment I thought they were really going to give me a chance.
