I have tried to get a BoA card twice now but have been declined both times. I have Citi, Chase, Amex, Discover and Cap One. After I got my Amex I figured my scores and history must certainly be good enough to pass muster at BoA...but it wasn't. Anybody have a similar experience?
Yes. I got an invitation to apply for an Amex Green last May and was approved. I was shocked, as I had 2 CAs and 4 COs on my reports!!! I still don't quite know why Amex approved me, but they did. Last October, 1 of the CAs and 2 of the COs had aged off, so I decided to take a chance on applying for a BoA card and was turned down. So, my report was better at the time that BoA denied me than it was when Amex approved me. Go figure.
Do you know any of your FICOs? Because issuers will have cards with wildly different requirements, this is not necessarily surprising. Some Amex cards aren't really that hard to get, especially zync, but some of their others require top notch credit. I'd have to have more information before finding it odd.

This could be a blessing in disguise. BoA has been decent to me but others on the form have had several complaints with them.
It's interesting that there is such a wide variety of experiences with BofA. Some on here have reported BofA was very picky with them. On the other hand, my experience was a complete 180. When I was new to credit (in 2005) they issued me a $2000 unsecured card. Knowing what I know now that is a crazy CL for a first card. About a year later they issued me a $4000 Cash Rewards card.

+1 B of A has been closing accts in good standing lately. It seems like something is going on with them. IMO you're better off not getting involved w/B of A.
What AMEX card is that? Charge card has a higher chance for approval because it is less risky to lenders (you have to PIF each month, no revolving balance). Example for AMEX Charge card: ZYNC, Green, Platinum, Gold, etc.
AMEX revolving cards are considerably harder to get.
Did you try a recon? When I applied for their student card, I was denied but had luck calling in. I got transferred to someone higher up and she approved me within 15 minutes. YMMV, but it's worth a shot.
Take it as a blessing in disquise. BOA is about the last institution I would want a card with at this point. Their 3-2-1 card has decent rewards but their recent antics I wouldn't touch them. Get an Amex BCE and call it a day.
