AMEX clarification on past amex baddies

Question:  Do I understand correctly that AMEX will not allow somebody to have any type of card, including AU or Company Employee card if they had a past closed, CO, BK or otherwise adverse account with AMEX?

not really- the oasis optima program is based on former default for eg.

and posts that indicate a new card came with age of old (closed) acct. seem to also prove otherwise.

Just adding that sins are forgiven (as long as that old delinquent balance is paid in full, including the interest on their books to date).

Yeah, that's what I figured.  Got a buddy who was an officer (non-owner) for a company and setup a Corp Amex account years back.  The company folded and he was on the hook as guarantor.  Eventually went BK due to the failure....so I guess for all intents and purposes, he is permanently toast to AMEX because I think the company left him holding an $80,000 balance he BK'ed.  I doubt he is going to go back and PIF plus interest to date!  LOL.

I know for sure BK is totally puts you out of the Amex books. As per the corporate debt, I have paid off $11.5K that was owed by the company that went under in 1996 and they gave me Oasis Card and later Platinum Charge and Plum Business Card.

in my case, and a couple of other posts indicate the entire balance is forgiven as well (depends on amt./ age etc. of debt) a huge BK write off is probably a whole other story.

Re: AMEX clarification on past amex baddies

AMEX is pretty sticky about these things. If they ever let me have one of their cards again you all will be the first to know. It would be nice to have any kind of an AMEX card again. My original card was issued in 1977 or 1978! As nice as it would be to pick up the instant age I wouldn't pay too much for it at this point.

As for your friend - has he probed the soft inq pre-app site? I have and it never has anything for me and I leave it at that.

Yep, Frank did the preselect thing and got preselected for several cards, but was declined due to "previous account closed by AMEX" or something like that.  He said it never even pulled his credit (no inq hard or soft), so evidently they check internal records for flags before pulling credit.

I asked him if he called about it and he seemed to think it was a lost cause.  I don't think he will call.  And I guess a life without AMEX isn't the worst thing to suffer in life.  LOL.

Re: AMEX clarification on past amex baddies

Well everyone has forgiven me and taken me back (paid or unpaid) with definite exception of AMEX and the possible exception of Chase. With Chase the verdict is not in, so far all they have done is accept an account they received in the WaMu transaction. I am pretty much resigned to remaining AMEX'less.

Re: AMEX clarification on past amex baddies

I have heard of people slipping through the cracks but it seems to be rare. You would think that it wouldn't be a problem for an AU to get a card regardless of their past history but that doesn't seem to be the case. That may be because of Amex's unique policy that states that the AU are liable for their charges if the primary card holder doesn't pay. Don't Amex AU cards have different card numbers than the primary user? I believe Amex even reserves the right to pull an AU credit report.
