When you share an experience and list "your" facts, but not all of them, that there will open up dialog. Open ended questions is mostly what resulted from your first post. But it was like pulling teeth, or spraying sunscreen on a kiddo to get more stats.....so yeah, this has been a bumpy ride cause we all want to know, and try to figure out what is/are the key factors to said "experience"...that's all.
Hope you get it all worked out.

my AMEX Business card that they whacked the limit to $5,000! Once I tried to use it for a $10k transaction and it declined the charge and I got a call from their customer service trying to accuse me of doing something wrong! Thank goodness I have a Discover card with a $17k limit and that $10k was no problem for them.
Is this not a cause for concern? A possible cause?
Okay, last time I will ask.....doesn't look like OP will have the answer for me but would still want to know if you ran a 10k transaction on a 5k limit and if so, did you "FIRST" try the "Spending Power" option provided via telephone and/or online tool?
I'd like to know as I am a new business customer and you stated you were accused by Amex of wrong doing.........this is concerning and I'd like to understand the process.
ONLY IF YOU WILL ANSWER THE ? x 4
Sorry I could have sworn I answered this in another response to another member but I my credit limit was unlimited when I made the $10k purchase. My CL was lowered to $5,000 after they declined it.
I have never taken a cash advance from AMEX or ANY other of my cards... I have plenty of cash, so much I have to deposit it often so there is no need for a cash advance. Lot's of cash money in my line of work.
My advice to you is this, don't use your AMEX Business for a large purchase because once they get wind of the fact you make large transaction payments they will think up a reason to reduce your no-pre set limit..
Anyone in here every pop and AMEX Platinum for over $10k on a single transaction? What happend? Be honest!
Since you asked, I've been with AmEX for over 20 years, biz and personal relationship. Never had any issues. That's not to say that issues won't occur. When I received my AmEx Platinum circa ~2000, I had no issues with charging $20,000 as a single transaction. They already had plenty of history with a few other revolvers that had $30K as CLs. In fact, with as many biz charges that I had over the years, they eventually sent me an invite for the Centurion biz card. Although the invitation was glitzy and tempting, I declined to pursue it and continued using the current card.
It's also worth noting that No Preset Spending Limit does not equal to "unlimited" charges. There are clauses in the card agreement that state the following ("Using the card" section "We decide whether to approve a charge based on how you spend and pay on this Account and other accounts you have with us and our affiliates. We also consider your credit history and your personal resources that we know about")

I hate it when credit card companies actually expect you to have one of their cards in order to make a charge, too. ![]()

Well, gee, why would I. This thread is not dealing with reality
They wont approve my imaginary transactions on my imaginary cards. Makes as much sense as everything else
gee

What's up with you people bringing up reality?
I'm only here to share my experience with Amex
Gee!

I am just trying to figure out where exactly I was asking people for help? I was more or less sharing my experience.
When you share your experience in a public forum, people can, and will share back. This forum is very data driven and in order to get more datapoints they want to get to the bottom of someone's issue. Based on datapoints of other threads, there has to be a driving factor for what you went through. Everyone is just trying to figure it out.
As for the NPSL of the charge cards, this isn't the old amex where you could charge anything you want. They now set an internal limit that's based on 6 month patterns. If you never charged more than $4k in a month, ever, and then all of a sudden tried to charge $10k, that raises flags. On the flip side, if you're charging $10k a month, but have to pay off that $5k internal limit constantly to do so, they'll raise your internal limit as you've proven you need that limit and can pay it off with no problems.

So OP wants help but only from selected Big Baller Types. And when us "bigwigs" do help we get shot down for not understanding the fiances that go into those purchases
Do I have that about right so far?
Well, I'd have one if people would start mathing for me
My differential equations are a bit rusty.
