Either way, you got 2 great cards you wanted from a great company that back dates and you were planning on gardening (IIRC) so you're really kind of golden all around (the inq's won't mean spit after the back dating hits!).
Still Big Congrats!

Welcome to the AmEx Family
You applied for 1 charge card and 1 credit card. Its my understanding that is the reason for the 2 inq. If you apped for 2 credit cards or 2 charge cards you should only see 1.

The Double-HP isn't really a surprise.
No idea if they'd consider removing one. Good thing is they'll age off simultaneously.
Well, at least we now know.
And you got two good cards out of it.
Thanks for the replies. I was kind of holding my breath, but thought it was clear. Then checked last night and saw the bad news.
Yes, I am thrilled to get the 2 Amexes... now just have to hope I can get backdating. That's going to be tricky, since i don't have acct. info any longer. All I have is an acct number from an old EX cr, which people have posted here will not work with Amex. So, my fingers are crossed!
The regular CSR won't be able to help if the account has fallen off the screen they have access to.
I even had an old bill and had no luck, LOL! Called back during regular business hours and the CSR requested an archive search. They don't respond or notify you of results, though. If they find the account a new backdated card will be overnighted.

Thanks for the info. I'm waiting with bated breath for the cards to come in the mail and see what the date says!
Because they are your first new cards, they are likely going to be imprinted with this year as the member since date, but that doesn't mean you haven't been backdated. When you set up the online access, the year that shows at the top of the page is what will report.
My first card last year said member since '11 on it, cards I applied for after that were imprinted with the backdated year without my requesting it.
Yeah, unfortunately I can't set up my acct online until I get the cards! (or at least one of them.) Waiting anxiously...
