Re: AMEX myth busters.. three from me..

Personally why even try it out to carry  a balance on an Amex card if you have other cards? in my opinion since i have other cards will only carry balances on my multiple Visa cards or my Discover card before my Amexs even with a 0% intro APR

Maybe because it's better to have one TL with a bal as opposed to multiple TLs.

Each profile is different.  Maybe OP s wife's profile is thick and Amex wouldn't blink with her file.  While a new file may raise red flags.

Like everything suggested or advised here, YMMV.

I was saying If you have multiple Cards why risk putting it on the Amex? Put the Balance on the Chase , Citi, Capital one or whatever else you have.. Of course if the only card you have is Amex then I would say keep it on and see what happens.

I bought a TV like 4 months ago for around $500 and since i do have a 0% APR on my Amex BCE and Discover. Was planning to hold a balance for a while and decided to put it on my Discover because i didn't feel like leaving it on my Amex and finding out they dont like it true or not.

Interesting data points.   What's your overall UTIL like?   AMEX does seem to like a low overall UTIL a lot.

She'sgot six revolving lines.  5 had under 3% balancess.  The two AMEX had 60% UTIL.  TOTAL UTIL at 38%.

So it wasn't low.

Discover IT $19,000 == 12/2013
AMEX 12/2013 ---BCP $12,000 === BC $23,000 ----- 04/2014
CHASE SLATE $5,700 === 12/2013
BoA 123 $6000 === 12/2013
Barclay Rewards $1500 == 12/2013

Accts are 8 months old.  She's lived in Europe the past ten years so her only accounts were all opened around Oct of last year.  Basically six inquries, six accounts, 8 months history and about 22K in available CL.

Her file isn't thick at all.
