AMEX preapproval in mail after bk'ing them in 98

I've heard that AMEX has the memory of an elephant, so I'm a little confused that I received a preapp for the green in the mail yesterday (with a nice frig magnet)...  I bk'd AMEX back in 98 for around 2.3K, did they forget???  Is there a chance I could be accepted for the preapp???

Re: AMEX preapproval in mail after bk'ing them in 98

I did the same back in 87 on the green card. It was closed because I filed in 89. I never received an invitation until 2007 for the Blue card. Now when I sign on to my account it says member since 1987, they have backdated my Credit report to the time I actually became a member , which helped my history. So to answer your question, NO, they do not forget, and neither does CITI. I would take the offer and see what happens

Plastic Guy,

You say that CITI also has a memory like an elephant maybe  you have the neccessary experience to help me with this one.

I had two CITI accounts open around the same time. One was a CC that went horribly awry and the other was a personal loan from CITI that I used to pay off said bad CC. One ended up closing with a horrible history and the other one about 4 months later with awesome history.

I'm currently in the rebuilding stage of the whole credit process... the bad CITI has dropped from my report and the good one has a little time left on it.

Do you think with average credit I would be able to get another CITI card and have my history start over from 1996?

Re: AMEX preapproval in mail after bk'ing them in 98

Amy:

My Experience with Citi was that they sent me a pre aprroval for a Diamond Preferred and I was skeptical because I filed against them as well. I went ahead and applied. They called me and said that they were reviewing my application and wanted to know did I want the CITI Prof as well, I was surprised at the offer and said fine. The cards came, The professional card was at 9k and the Platinum at $8300. The cards were opened in Sept 07, I moved the CL on the Platinum to the pro, closed the platinum and I opened the Diamond in Jan 08 at $8300

Now here's the problem about remembering. I requested a CLI on the Diamond and I was denied immediately! They never pulled a report. My reason for denial was because I filed against them.

It never made any sense, If I filed, then why issue me not 1 but 3 accounts? They pulled to open the accounts. I tried the following month, still a denial, no inquiry, Finally, I spoke to a supervisor about this and I was told that the filing in 89 was the reason for the denials. I tried for the third and finally time, same answer. So I called again and explained the opening of accounts but cannot get an increase? She finally told me that I can wait for a computer generated increase (which wasn't going to happen as long as they were using old information from 1989)or accept a HARD PULL. I went for the Hard simply because I wanted them to see I did not have any negative info on my reports so they said to call back in 30 min, they'll have an answer. I never called back. Fifteen minutes later, I logged on and they had increase me to 15K.

Sorry to be so long winded, but it was a complicated situation. I don't know if CITI backdates accounts. My reports and account has the opening of 07 & 08. I just know that AMEX is the one who gave me 21 years of history when I orginally only had 14 before they backdated me. I hope that answers your question

Re: AMEX preapproval in mail after bk'ing them in 98

Plasticguy - thanks for the input...  Did you go through the Oasis program to repay the amount you bk'd or did they just "start over" with you?  I'm just curious if they are trying to lure me in and do the bait and switch - from the green card to the oasis program?

When I filed I erased everything ( so I thought) and started offer. I received my first credit card again from Chase 5 years into BK, ANd that's the truth!Smiley Surprised I don't remember what my balances were at Amex nor CITI. I just know I am happier with the blue, although they keep send approvals for the Platinum, Star woods, Hilton, Gold, then they recycle and send them all again They won't stop. I have 23k on the blue and I am not opening another AMEX card

Thanks Plasticguy...  I just checked the mailbox and got another preapp for the green (another frig magnet included).  I think I'll wait for the blue, as you said!

I refuse to pay an annual fee on any card. Especially $450 for a Platinum! I can get the same benefits from BOFA World MC minus a few, but with no fee

Re: AMEX preapproval in mail after bk'ing them in 98

The late, great, Wamu had a memory of an Alzheimer's patient.  I bk'd real estate totalling over $500k in Jul 07 and 9 months later in Apr 08 I was pre-approved for, applied and was accepted for an ESPN Visa with a CL of $6500.  And the free PFICO to boot.

I guess that is one of the many reasons they no longer exist.  We'll see what Chase does with it now...since I BK'd $12k on their card at the same time.......
