I've heard that AMEX has the memory of an elephant, so I'm a little confused that I received a preapp for the green in the mail yesterday (with a nice frig magnet)... I bk'd AMEX back in 98 for around 2.3K, did they forget??? Is there a chance I could be accepted for the preapp???
Plastic Guy,
You say that CITI also has a memory like an elephant maybe you have the neccessary experience to help me with this one.
I had two CITI accounts open around the same time. One was a CC that went horribly awry and the other was a personal loan from CITI that I used to pay off said bad CC. One ended up closing with a horrible history and the other one about 4 months later with awesome history.
I'm currently in the rebuilding stage of the whole credit process... the bad CITI has dropped from my report and the good one has a little time left on it.
Do you think with average credit I would be able to get another CITI card and have my history start over from 1996?
Amy:
My Experience with Citi was that they sent me a pre aprroval for a Diamond Preferred and I was skeptical because I filed against them as well. I went ahead and applied. They called me and said that they were reviewing my application and wanted to know did I want the CITI Prof as well, I was surprised at the offer and said fine. The cards came, The professional card was at 9k and the Platinum at $8300. The cards were opened in Sept 07, I moved the CL on the Platinum to the pro, closed the platinum and I opened the Diamond in Jan 08 at $8300
Now here's the problem about remembering. I requested a CLI on the Diamond and I was denied immediately! They never pulled a report. My reason for denial was because I filed against them.
It never made any sense, If I filed, then why issue me not 1 but 3 accounts? They pulled to open the accounts. I tried the following month, still a denial, no inquiry, Finally, I spoke to a supervisor about this and I was told that the filing in 89 was the reason for the denials. I tried for the third and finally time, same answer. So I called again and explained the opening of accounts but cannot get an increase? She finally told me that I can wait for a computer generated increase (which wasn't going to happen as long as they were using old information from 1989)or accept a HARD PULL. I went for the Hard simply because I wanted them to see I did not have any negative info on my reports so they said to call back in 30 min, they'll have an answer. I never called back. Fifteen minutes later, I logged on and they had increase me to 15K.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was a complicated situation. I don't know if CITI backdates accounts. My reports and account has the opening of 07 & 08. I just know that AMEX is the one who gave me 21 years of history when I orginally only had 14 before they backdated me. I hope that answers your question
The late, great, Wamu had a memory of an Alzheimer's patient. I bk'd real estate totalling over $500k in Jul 07 and 9 months later in Apr 08 I was pre-approved for, applied and was accepted for an ESPN Visa with a CL of $6500. And the free PFICO to boot.
I guess that is one of the many reasons they no longer exist. We'll see what Chase does with it now...since I BK'd $12k on their card at the same time.......
