Please, excuse my ignorance, but I do not find anything to be fascinating by Amex. I have $15K Blue and IMHO PenFed has much better rewards and CS.

Re: AMEX strikes once again

I did get mad for about 2 seconds then realized I have so many more cards that deserve my business I do not "need" an AMEX. I felt so in control when I told the rep "OK" "Id like to go ahead and cancel the card" he insisted I wait for the reason and maybe it could be reinstated later. I said "no thank you id like to close it" to be honest felt so good cause the ball was in my court. I think anyone that get victimized by these jerks should gladly close the account might make them realize that people wont put up with this nonsense.

Re: AMEX strikes once again

Got an email from AMX today.  Dropped my CL.   Said I would receive a letter in the mail stating why.  Going to pay it off and sock drawer it.

Re: AMEX strikes once again

sorry about that, though it looks like they're getting fancier now.  when they got me they didn't bother with such pleasantries.  in fact, i didn't get an email or a letter if my recollection serves me.

i just logged on to my acct. and gasped when i looked at my new limit as being a fraction of my former self :smileyvery-happy:  it's understandable that one would want to close an acct. if they feel they've been mistreated and want to abruptly end the business relationship. however, how you are dealing with it would seem to put you in the driver's seat more so than a reactionary, knee jerk closing of the acct., which can even damage your score.  to each his own i guess.

I would have to disagree with that somewhat, like you stated to each his own but I would not be happy being at the mercy of any credit card company when I have been nothing short of amazing with maintaining my credit reputation. I dont see how this could hurt me at all my utilities are very low and a zero balance on AMEX at time of closing and I have great prime banks that appreciate my business and as a matter of fact I already replaced the CL loss thru CLI on 3 of my other cards with no Hard Inq so now instead of waiting for AMEX to decide one day that they should shut me down I took it upon myself to have it show on my credit report "Closed at consumers request" I dont know about the rest but like I said before I will not stand around and "Hope" that AMEX will treat me good.

Re: AMEX strikes once again

See that's what you get for getting a mortgage. Amex like to see they're customers homeless with all of your money going to they're bonus points mall sites and only Amex name on your credit reports. I'm kidding but if they drop my limit down even $1 I'll closed the card. I havn't used the card in a long time and the last payment I sent was $30 to much so my CL was showing an extra $30 but I just checked and now it says $20. I want to know what they did with my $10Smiley Mad  I'm guessing these other CC places should start sending Amex thank you cards for sending them all of they're business. Hope ya Discover card treats ya well

Re: AMEX strikes once again

I am glad I got rid of them. I can't justify paying them an annual fee to sock drawer the low cl card. The card is basically useless (especially the charge cards not helping utl whatsoever). Also, is it me or are the reps getting a little attitude? As for dropping fico scores upon closing, I just don't see that happening, plus they'll be on credit reports for 10 years with the quote " closed per consumers request" At least I closed it before they did!

Re: AMEX strikes once again

huh? weren't you just saying that you are v. happy amex in another cld thread. i think you may have even mentioned something like you use it as a debit card and were sort of reveling in the fact that you hadn't had any problems/ really like the card??  did they cld you too or something some time after that?
