FWIW, Amex is the only card that I have ever had do a CLD on me that I can recall. Between business and personal, there are 28 open credit entries on my report and I have 22 credit cards. During the past few months when Amex has been really agressive in CLD two of my business accounts and cancelling another, I have received at least 3 CLIs from other companies. Most are simply unchanged, which makes sense in today's business environment.
They seem to be the most agressive but perhaps not the sneakiest. Advanta changed one of my business accounts from 6.99% to 20.5% without notice or reason. By the time I received the statement, I was billed $46 in interest instead of the expected $13. I PIFed it immediately and will never carry a balance or pay them another penny in interest again. I simply called two regular vendors and had them change me from credit card to open account so my monthly usage is now way down. Screw the bastards but DON'T get mad and think you are "showing them" by cancelling an account.
