4.5% is only for travel redemptions on their travel portal.

No. It can get redeemed for any travel (no portal is needed).

Right, the wonders of Real Time Rewards.
And since, as we now know, the USB IT systems aren't great, sometimes RTR works beyond expectation. I did a car rental, and got an RTR redemption offer when I booked (which I did) and another when I finally paid (which I also took) so I was able to do 2 4.5% redemptions on the same charge
Such a very sad day (just got hit from behind in my car) now news of this. We all knew it would come just a matter of when. Thankfully 3% and 5% caterogry cards are plentiful so I will be ok especially with them still offering 3% on 1,500 spend. Still works for my needs and makes it a good catch all card for my none cateogry spend. I give them credit for not product changing us.

I use it to pay my rent and anything that can be paid with a credit card under 3% charge. You under estimate the non-category spend. Most places that have a fee to pay with card (at least the things I've paid) charge 2% or less which gives me 1% back at the least. Hands down has been my favorite card despite not having the extra rewards boost and perks that my other cards offer.
@DoppelgangerD :For those of you with this card, I'd love to know what you're spending more than 1500 a month on that can't already be beaten by other cards.
Just one of the biggest expenses I can think of is major auto repairs, or even buying a vehicle, but that's not a monthly thing.
Yes, 3% is a good catch-all, but since I don't have the AOD, my fall-back is a 2% card, and I put way WAY less than 1500 a month on it.
Even if my income doubled/tripled, I still don't see myself putting anywhere near 1500 a month on it.
BTW, don't forget Affinity is 2.5% with the caveat being you have to park 1k in a no-fee checking account... but, also capped at 10k per month. (EDIT: per MONTH [accidentally posted per year])

This really bummed me out for a few hours. But upon reflection, the $1500 covers my general spend most months. The APR is still my best since recent hikes. I don't think I will rush out to choose one of the 2% +/- replacements just yet.
The BOA UR card is possibly among the best replacement cards (1.5% x 1.75x due to Plat honor --> 2.6%). There is no cap.

Not really underestimating, just that I can find ways to pay things with better than 2% return most of the time. It'd probably be considered MS, but as long as I'm not breaking any laws or TOS, imma do what I gotta do, lol.
I think the AOD more or less provided a good catch-all for many people willing to sacrifice a (small) percentage of CB in lieu of juggling too many cards to maximize rewards, and I can respect that. To each their own as they say. 😉
BTW, paying rent is a good example.
I have a mortgage though, so that wouldn't work for me, but if I did pay rent, I'd likely be getting the Bilt card for sure.

Yes but maybe not everyone has $100,000 to plop in BoA. I have been thinking hard about this myself the last several months. I'm just trying to think it through mathematically. With today's great rates, I would rather stay safe and not put my money in the market (for now). High Yield accounts, CDs, Treasuries. I believe the best fixed rate investment at BoA/Merrill at the moment is 4.85%? I have money in other places at 5.10%. That's a missed $250/year putting $100,000 with BoA. Will that 0.625% (over a 2% card) give me more than $250/year? I would have to spend $40,000/yr in this example.

You may do it in a much better way (putting assets in BOA as CD or saving does not financially make sense to collect limited CB):
Roll-over 401k from a former employer and bring it to ME (assuming >100k asset) --> buy some promising stocks (self-managed) --> gain several thousands in long term, collect also SUB from ME
--> The Plat honor tier gets fulfilled in a few days.
