AX upgrade vs sub future eligibility

hey, I have a question + extra points if you can just talk me out of this stupid offer lol.  just logged into my bgr to copy a referral link - 15K ends tomorrow - and this thing appears.  got the bgr on 4/17 and I have no intention of keeping it.  50K/$10K is no deal but it is over 5 months and my questions are, does the af kick in right away and am I still eligible to get the biz plat in the future if I so desired if I have never had it before.  to me one is a upgrade offer and the the other is a sign up offer.  laying back at a centurion lounge sounds so nice lol.  don't know much about the card.. any thoughts most welcome

Thank  you!

Re: AX upgrade vs sub future eligibility

You have Business Green Rewards now and received an upgrade offer for Business Platinum. 50K Membership Rewards for spending $10K in 5 months is a great offer. If you are a big spender though, you would be better off applying for a new Platinum Business because you have the opportunity to earn another 25K points (spending requirement is 3 months vs the 5 you were offered).

Once you get a sign up bonus with AMEX for a specific card, you generally are not eligible to get another sign up bonus for that same, exact card in the future. If you accept your upgrade offer and then close that card later, you may certainly open another down the line-but you will likely not get that card's sign up bonus as you will already have earned one prior on another Business Platinum. YMMV.

The annual fee will be charged on the first statement.

Re: AX upgrade vs sub future eligibility

This all depends on your spending habits, whether $10k in 5 months/3 months is doable for you and also whether your redemption of 50K/75K points will be very good (>~ 2cpp) or poor (<1 cpp). If you upgrade, then it'll look as though you have had the card before so you would be ineligible for the 75K in 3 months offer (or anything else regarding the Biz Plat) ever again. Likewise, if you sign up anew, then you probably won't ever get an upgrade bonus. If you care about INQs, then signing up will be another one on your credit report (but at least you won't have any new account ramifications), whereas the upgrade path does not.

Re: AX upgrade vs sub future eligibility

I just got off the phone with ax..because my bgr has no af the first year there is nothing to pro-rate so the af would hit on the spot.  the 50K is a $10K/5 month spend.  no way I would app for the card for 75K/$20K because of all sort of reasons, mostly because I am mr garden for 2018, no new accounts or pulls.  this offer stands on its own, if I cancel the card and wait a year I can app and get the bonus for a new biz plat as there is no lifetime language tied to the upgrade.  my account # would not change.  the csr, who was excellent, also said I can downgrade at any time and keep the points and they would adjust the af.  the t&c's said it ends on 12/31/17 so i am tempted to pull the pin and ask questions later - she said the offer has expired but if its on my account it will work and did not know when it would go away

"laying back at a centurion lounge sounds so nice lol."

Don't let THAT be your motivation.  Have you ever been to a Centurion Lounge?  Yes, they are nice, but there's no "laying back" as they are always overcrowded.

@Anonymous yeah I was kidding, been @ sfo a bunch of times.  good food, if you like to stand up eating ha-ha.  I just wrote to an amex sales rep I know to see if he has a better offer but the reality is I cannot make this work.  I don't have $10K of spend even over 5 months.  if they had a club at lax or international that would prob do it for me but they don't or at least not yet.  I might just upgrade to have a metal souvenir and cancel it next month like I was going to do with the gold anyhow.  I love those metal cards!

I'm playing devil's advocate here....but with Amex Open cards there should not be a HP and as it is a business card it won't appear on your credit report...just saying LOL. I opened an Amex Business Green Rewards in December myself to test out business cards. so far so good.

Re: AX upgrade vs sub future eligibility

I have a business plat offer for 75k bonus points.  Higher spend though, something like 25-30k in 3 months.

The only way I'd ever get the Amex Plat in its current form (AF and Reward/Redemption structure) is through Charles Schwab.  The Charles Schwab Amex Plat is the best deal for Amex Plat.
