Has anyone else noticed that the Abound gas card is no longer paying 5% on purchases made inside the gas station?
For years and years I've had absolutely no issues with getting 5% back on everything I buy at local convenience stores. It was the best "gas" (beer+pizza) card on the planet. But it seems they've gotten tired of paying. On my latest statement, cut mid-June, I only got 1% on such purchases. Apparently now it's only for pay-at-the-pump gas like all the other dime-a-dozen gas cards. That bites.
I only did $505.95 purchases "a couple times", I swear! LOL
P.S. How do these gas cards behave for folks in NJ and OR where you can't pump your own gas? Since the MCC might not always be "automated fuel dispensers" if some dude is swiping your card on some handheld terminal?
The fine print:
"1 Cash back rebates on purchases made with Platinum Visa® only. All rebates will not be shown at the time of purchase, but will appear on your monthly billing statement. 5% off fuel purchases paid at the pump and 1% off general retail purchases. 5% off merchants classified as Clubs/Membership, Miscellaneous Food Stores, Sporting Good Stores, Shoe Stores and Sports Apparel/Riding Apparel. Offer valid January 1 – March 31, 2023. 3% Visa® cash advance fee. Rates and terms are subject to credit approval. Subject to $10 Membership Fee if not already a member.
2 Cash back rebates on purchases made with Platinum Visa® only. All rebates will not be shown at the time of purchase, but will appear on your monthly billing statement. 5% off fuel purchases paid at the pump and 1% off general retail purchases. "

Yes, that has ALWAYS been there. But they paid out on the inside stuff regardless.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing them of bait and switch or anything of the sort. I'm just asking if this really was a new change, or perhaps my chain of stores had a MCC change or something (doubtful). I'm surprised that I wasn't able to find a recent post about it already since this just happened a few weeks ago, and this was a nice moneymaker.
For what it's worth, I too noticed that on my last statement.
I know as late as Feb 23 they were giving me 5% at 7-11 and my 7-11 doesn't even have gas pumps.
My guess is your local store did change MCC codes, or they flagged you for 500 dollar giftcard purchases.

In OR you can tell the Junky looking individual to piss off now. When I last there in Nov, my cards all coded as gas although I can't remember if anyone used a handheld terminal, in the past they just swiped the card at the pump, and then entered a code. I frankly wasn't wtching to closely how it was scanned so not sure exactly what they do now. I am going again next week and will wtch more closely.
