Hello,
I wanted to know has anyone ever activated their card and at the same time asked for a CLI? I saw someone post about it but wasn't sure if this is something they will do? Any insight? Thank you!
Depends on your credit profile really as you aren't giving us much info. I tend to lean towards the school of thought that you should use the card for a few months and show them some useage especially if this is your first Amex card and pay it off and use it fairly heavly to show them some idea what type of customer you are prior to asking for a CLI with them. You certainly can ask iniitially, but does it really hurt at all to wait 60-90 days to give them an idea of who you are and probably have a bit better chance of success? Just my 2 cents on asking for a CLI with Amex.

I think this is good practice with any lender, really, but definitely agree as far as Amex. It won't kill you to wait a couple months and show some usage/history before asking for a CLI.

Let's put it this way....
If you're <$2k, then NO, don't do it.
If you're $2k-$6k....maybe, but doubtful.
If you're $6k+, be ready to back up your income claim.
When I got mine I was initially approved for 3k, once I got the card I asked for a CLI, got a little nervous so I didnt ask for 9k I asked for 6 and was approved no problem. That was begining of an app spree and my scores were decent etc. Recently I decided to try for the BCE card and was approved but just at 1k. I was pretty sure I would get denied for a CLI with that marginal limit but tried yesterday and was denied. No big deal for me because I don't need more right now. BTW I have been allowing the balance of my AMEX ED to sit at around 65% because it has zero percent apr for a few more months so that might be a reason AMEX didnt take my request favorably.

only be ready to backup the claim if you are asking for more than 24.5 total though. and thats not always a guarantee either.
Best to use card for 2 months if u want it ask for 3x the limit and let them counter

FR can happen anytime. Aggressively seeking is the big factor. The $25k ceiling is being disproved lately here as well, if posters are being truthful.
Tried my BCP on activation last week and was denied, told me to call in. Rep said I was too soon and to wait 90 days and try it.

I requested a CLI when I received my EDC. $7500 -> $15k
