Not a mastercard (if they still issue those), but just a personal Sunoco card with rewards (5 cent per gallon back)?
Yesterday I applied online for a Shell card and got it; $600 limit. It was instant approval. 
Today my husband applied for the Sunoco card and he got a 30-day message.
Neither of them say they approve instantly and the FAQ for Sunoco says applicants will hear within 30 days. But they're both Citibank and seem identical otherwise. I was hoping someone can tell me if Sunoco approves instantly online or not.

Anyway, they were "not able to approve" him. 
I'll spare you the anatomical words he used for them when he found out. (Maybe that's why he didn't want to speak to a person? LOL)
Then I went and applied for the Sunoco card (uh-oh, do I need to go to the dungeon?) I got the 30-day notice,too. So I called the auto-line and they said, "Congratulations, you're approved as of 3/26." Which was yesterday.
Suspecting they were referring to the Shell application, I bravely pressed 2 to speak to a person. They don't even have my Sunoco application on file yet (I checked literally one minute after getting the 30-day response online, which, by the way, was one nanosecond after hitting "submit application," so it was obvious they did no pull or credit consideration yet.)
I guess I'll call about my own Sunoco application later today or tomorrow and see if the automated line has an answer for me or not.
I already said before that I'm crazy about gasoline cards and I don't know why.

I want one myself but all the good ones are with Citi....................
