You can set spending limits on amex charge cards. I have my husband at NPSL but when I get my daughter a card it will be a $50 limit.... when she starts driving I will increase it.

How things have changed! My sister put me as an AU on her AMEX in 1998 when I was 12. Just recently 2 months ago I got my own two AMEX and was backdated to 1998 adding 28 yrs of history

I'm not sure about age limits now, but I can tell you that the backdating did help me, added 14 + 14 yrs of history because of my two AMEX and if I add more it will add more. That boosted me 14 points just today.

I was also an AU on her Chase since 2005 and I was approved for thei United Card in October with just two Cap1 cards, bestbuy card and carecredit.

Bottom line, I think it does help to be an AU, at least for now..

Chase doesn't ask age for AU, only primary and secondary. Call back and speak with a different agent. Be warned though, it will be reported to your kid's CR.

it's certainly a great help to your children, provided they've been tought sound credit mangement.
