Did any one try? Will it create a new account on your credit report?

What is your goal in doing this?
I can't imagine any scenario where this would make sense. If you were added as an AU on your own account, it would be the same Platinum account (just a different card without the same benefits or perks) so it would not duplicate the account on your reports.
As a back up card for my mom when visiting US

visiting the US.
This begs the question, "Do you need to dish out any AA? If you do, please consider me".
Of course their system should prevent this, but it wreaks of experimental fraudulent behavior. They would get a little antsy of what you might be able to fraudulently accomplish doing this.
If I'm understanding this correctly, you dont necessarily want to add yourself, but you're looking for additional card so that she can make charges while she's visiting?

That's how I read that as well. If that is the case and she does not have a SSN or ITIN, you should be able to call American Express and have her added via passport number.
Would it even be possible to add yourself since you need to provide your SSN?
Could you do it on other cards?

Wasn't there an issue with self referrals with Amex in the past? They didn't even check to ensure that it could not be done.

How is this anything like self referral if no incentive is present?
