Advice about NASA cli?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to take advantage of some zero APR offers and therefore will be carrying a bit of a balance for a year or so. To keep my utilization low I decided to try for some credit limit increases. I have had ok success but unfortunately ended up with an HP from Barclay without realizing they require that. Anyway, I applied for a NASA cash rewards card about 2 years ago when everyone was getting very high limits with them. Unfortunately they must have not liked my credit profile and I only managed to get a 2500 limit from them. I have practically not used the card since I have gotten it. Since there have been no automated CLI and no option for a quick CLI via website, I don't feel confident asking for a CLI on a card I don't use.

What is the best course of action here to get a nice big limit? If I can get a big limit on this card I can maybe use it as leverage to ask from similar amounts down the line from other lenders. I have heard some people have success with online chat but I have not found a chat option on the website.

Should I use this as my main shopping card with 50%+ for a few months before asking? Should I ask right away? Are they still increasing limits with just an SP? Any advice you can give me is appreciated.

My scores are in the signature with my current limits. Score should have dropped a little from the new freedom card I got today and the 2 extra pulls on the reports. Besides that everything is current. I am doing well on my journey so far but I see people with better looking profile and lower credit scores. If you have any other overall advice it is much appreciated.

Your scores are good. I'd give it a try. I am sure others will chime in soon.

Re: Advice about NASA cli?

Curious to hear the answers on this one myself. I joined NASA from a direct mail offer in December 2015, after the myFICO gravy train. But that’s how I landed here. Don’t see much on NASA CLIs at all so I’m curious how the process goes. At the time they gave me my biggest SL ever at $15k.

Your scores are amazing so i dont know why they'd reject you. I love the look of the Nasa visa, Nasa CU,  not so much. Have you thought of joining Penfed? They might suprise you on starting limit.

I agree about PenFed. With your scores you should get a good CL and they allow room for growth, too.

Re: Advice about NASA cli?

Agree on the PenFed recommendations.  I have a $25K card wiht NASA and have never seen anything regarding the process for getting a CLI with them.  PenFed is a completely different type of credit union and they are very generous so I'd encourage you to join them and apply for a card.

Re: Advice about NASA cli?

Personally, Id play with the card for a couple of months just in case you had slipped into inactive status

As a side question, does NASA still give SP pulls for membership and sp pulls for cc? If they do, then maybe its a sp for cli also?

Pretty sure that it's now an HP to apply for credit card.  For membership, they probably are using ChexSystems

I have one HP from 2015 on Experian from them.  The offer I had from them was that I would be automatically enrolled as a member with a share account if approved for the card.  So not sure if they were combined, if it was a SP, or as Irish suggested, ChexSystems

Re: Advice about NASA cli?

Thank you for the recommendations so far. I originally didn't want to apply for another card. I am not a big spender and always end up having to rotate cards. I also have a lot of inquiries since the bulk of my prime cards are about 2 years old or less and those inquiries are just starting to fall off.

However, if penfed can give a high limit then it may be worth it for the future when I ask for CLI in a year or so. I went ahead and applied for a membership and once that goes through I will app for one of their card? Any card you guys recommend in particular? I am liking the 1.5% card and the Amex also looks pretty nice.

As far as Nasa goes I suppose I'll use it for like a month and then call to see if they will increase with a softpull. I hate having so many cards to manage but since they don't take a fee I don't mind keeping it in the sock drawer and letting it improve my AAOA.

At this point I think my scores have plateaued until account age improves and inquiries fall off. Back to the garden I go. Unless... you guys can recommend another lender that is very very generous with limits.
