Advice for long zero % intro period with high SL

Hi,

I've been reading through the forums and decided to post a new thread to hopefully get some advice. The zero percent intro period on my Chase Freedom unlimited is ending in August and I would like to transfer $5K to a new zero percent card. I also plan to use this new card to fund a home imrpovement project that will likely be $10-15K. I was wondering if any cards would likely yield a SL of $15K+.

My Experion Fico score is 826 and my Transunion Fico score is 821.

The total credit limit on all my cards is $142K including a card I am unathorized user on.

My highest total limit is with Chase: $26.8k on Freedom Unlimited, $15K on Freedom, and $5.6K on Amazon

For Amex I have $21K on SPG and $10K on Clear. I am also an authorized user on BCE with a $35K limit.

I am leaning towards opening the Capital One Savor card. The $150 opening bonus would cover the balance transfer fee on $5K, but from what I have read the highest starting limit will likely be $10K. Is there a better option? I currently do not have a Capital One, Discover, or Citibank card.

Two side questions. Should I PC my American Express Clear card, which isn't offered anymore, to the Magnet? I likely won't use the card either way. Also, should I close my Freddom Unlimited card, transfer the $26K limit between my other two Chase cards, because I likely won't use the card for the 1.5% going forward.

Thanks for the advice and sorry for all the questions.

Very high starting lines and long 0% intro periods seldom go hand-in-hand. If you are under 5/24 or have a green check mark offer under My Offers in your Chase account, you may consider opening a Slate card and transferring some of your other Chase limits to make it usable.

Edit: of course the Slate would not allow you to transfer the $5k from your Chase card. BoA, Amex and Discover May be good options for a BT card.

In addition to what @K-in-Boston suggests, consider a credit union card like the PenFed Gold card.  0% BT APR for 12 months and a rate as low as 8.99%.  You are far more likely to see a high SL on a credit union card than your typical bank..  At least this way you end up with a functional card as opposed to the Slate which is useless once the Bt offer is over.

Re: Advice for long zero % intro period with high SL

As with any card, you take your chances on the SL based on your profile. Have you ever received that type of SL before?

Though I haven't seen any DP's for SL of $15K+ on the Savor card, I've only seen higher SL on the Venture.

Both Discover and Citibank can be on the lower end of SL. But again it' all based on yor CR, so there's no telling here either.

There's also Barclay's Ring card, lower end of APR starting at 10.49% and no BT fees. But I don't often see 0% APR promo for it.

Since you're already an existing Amex card holder, you might consider the Everyday Card. At least if it doesn't come with the SL you're after, you can always move the $9K from the Clear card to it. It doesn't have BT fee and is 0% APR for 15-18 months from opening the account, depending on the current offers.

Since Amex seems friendly to you with higher limits. I would look into the everyday card. 0% for 15 months, no BT fee and 25K points if you play around in incognito enough to get the offer to populate.

If the SL isn’t what you want, you can always move some of your existing Amex Line to the everyday

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into the Everyday card and see if I can get one of the better sign up offers. I was hesitent to get another Amex, but it may be my best option to get the credit limit I need.
