OK, thank you!  I'll take a look at those cards.  We're also eligible to join Navy Fed. C.U. as well. Should we apply for the NFCU first or does it really matter?

In my book NFCU is better than any bank. So yes.

Awesome! Will do.

Those are awesome scores for sure!

I would check out the various prime lenders and see what prequal results happens. Research cards and pick those which you’ll use. NFCU is definitely a good choice, too.

Hi, thank you! Is there an easy way to "check out the various prime lenders" to see prequal results? I just want to keep all the inquiries in check?

Re: Advice on credit cards to continue rebuilding credit

Absolutely, pre-quals from Chase, Discover, Capital One, Citi and Amex. I would start with Chase due to their 5/24 rule. Discover and Amex often times love thin files with excellent scores. Citi can be a bit conservative. I would go for NFCU last as they are not inquiry or new account sensitive like some of the others. This will be an exciting time for you, if you play your cards right.

I don't like BoA either. CitiAA is a nice travel card and I know others that love it.

Re: Advice on credit cards to continue rebuilding credit

OK, here's the latest. Last night I checked on prequalification on Chase and Capital one.  Chase said there were no offers at this time. Capital one suggested Quicksilver and CapOne Platinum.  Since they did not say approved, I'll assumed I wasn't since I didn't get "Congratulations!". Checked out Discover and it said I qualified for their IT and ITmiles cards.  So, this morning I went into NFCU, joined, and applied for their Cashrewards card (the green one).  I was approved with a CL of $7800!!! So now I'll add my wife as an authorized user on that card. Now we need a good travel card, making her primary.  Still researching Barclay, Citi, and BofA.  B of A doesn't have a prequal process so we would have actually apply online or in the branch.  Does anyone have the DiscoverIT or DiscoverIT Miles cards?  Is Discover readily accepted outside the US, particularly the carribean?  Thanks again everyone for the help!

Re: Advice on credit cards to continue rebuilding credit

Any of NFCU is your best bet. Bank of America 99/500, Capital One Platinum, Lendup L Card. Any of the Comenity store cards via shopping cart trick.

Fingerhut will give an account to anyone.

Oh just read your approved story. I wouldn't bother with Capital One card anyway. They will give you low limit which will never raise much. I just closed my Capital one after 13 months and limit was only 750 dollars.

Check out AMEX and see if you have prequalifications with them...with your scores (or your DW's scores) you'll likely get approved for any revolver you want as well as a charge card (if you want to do the 2 cards for 1 hard pull).  I'm sure your starting limit would be a good one too.  I got back in with AMEX when my Experian score was around 736 and I got a $15K starting limit on the Blue Cash Preferred and I only had one Chase card at the time (the Freedom Unlimited) with a $10K limit.  My Blue Cash Preferred is now sitting at $38K and it will be a year old in April.

Good luck to you!
