Advice on further AMEX usage

In short, I have just spent $1500 of my $3000 limit.  This came from purchasing a computer, and I called AMEX to get clearance before purchase.  Anyway, I have to make a trip to NY and will be staying at the Waldorf Astoria for a night, along with two days worth of meals.  I project spending $900 in NY.  My statement doesn't close until July 23rd and I intend to reconcile the account on next Tuesday.   Would 83% usage scare Amex (even though the statement won't close for a couple of weeks and I've always P before close) or is using that much of the credit line at all bad business?

i would do it. however i would call first and bring a back up!

I would also do it, if for no other reason than the fact that Amex will love you for using their card at the Waldorf Astoria.

Never leave home without another credit card. Maybe they will love you and give you a larger credit limit. Good luck.

Just make sure to call them and give them a heads up that you are, in fact, going out of town and spending a lot of money. That way they won't think the card is stolen.

Yeah, as John said, call and let them know you are going out of town.

And, assuming you PIF when it's all said and done, Amex will love you. Amex LOVES to see lots of usage, and using a lot and PIF seems to help with their internal scoring model and CLIs.

FYI, I did use the card.  Everything went through without a hitch!  Did both the Waldorf and Morton's steakhouse seamlessly.

I would have used my own Amex and everything! LOL!
