Alliant CU questions...

So, today I opened an Alliant Savings Accounts. I have a few different saving accounts I'd like to consolidate into a high yield savings. I currently have another high yield savings but on a google searched I turned up a higher interest rate with Alliant. So excited about the rate, I filled out the online sign up, etc. and then submit my application. I didn't even consider that they would pull my credit, as I haven't had any major banks do that, so it didn't cross my mind...even though I KNOW already that CU's do pull - I just didn't stop and think about it. So dumb. I would have put more thought into it if that was the case, because I really didn't want any more inquiries on my credit report since I plan to purchase a home in early 09.

Anyway...I get to the very end of the process and get a message saying "Sorry, can't approve your account at this time".  I'm thinking WTF? A savings account?  I have no negative stuff in chex systems or any of that stuff, as I have never bounced a check in my life, never even used overdraft protection.  EQ score was 753 as of a few days ago and that's who they pull. I was flabbergasted...well I called to talk to rep and she tells me not to worry, I must have made a typo somewhere, she tells me she's not allowed to tell me the actual reason, but her voice changes and says it could have been something as simples as my drivers license number and then kind of cleared her throat. So I think she was trying to tell me that's what I did wrong.  Says to just print out paper form and mail in with a copy of my DL and they will open the account. She said technically it's already approved, etc.  I confirmed with her that they did in fact pull my credit and she said yes, EQ.  So, I ask her to make sure they do not pull again, she says they are noting my account. I got her name and asked if I could send app directly to her, she says yes...Okay...cool.  I overnighted it directly to her with a short letter recapping our convo. just to be sure I don't get a double pull and she doesn't forget about our conversation by the time standard snail mail would have arrived.

Here's where I am confused....after I confirmed they did hard pull on EQ, I asked if they will need to pull again for other products. Wanted to open up a custodial account for my son (they give 3.75% interest on kid savings accounts!) and then asked about CC since they already pulled me...and she tells me that they will have to pull my credit again for any other accounts.  BUT, according to my search on the forums here, others have rec'd multiple products from them on one pull. Did I screw this up by my typo mistake?  Is the only way to get mutiple products with them on one pull through the online system when you first sign up?

Anyone here recently go through Alliant?  Or have experience with this? I am NOT willing to take another pull just for a CC with them, but if I did have the opportunity to take advantage of the pull they already used, I would have inquired about it. Don't even want to do the custodial account if it's gonna cost me a hard. That just doesn't seem right....

Posting in CC forum because I specifically would like to know if those that apped for Alliant were able to get a CC or another account with a single pull. Figured more people would see it here.

Re: Alliant CU questions...

Alliant has been having application errors with membership online before. Either posts on these boards or other credit sites have mentioned it.

It happened to both DW and myself. No biggie, just send them the info and it will be approved. The CSR I dealt with 4 months ago actually said ' that's still happening with the online member applications ????'.

It's a glitch in their system.

As far as a double pull , others have posted about a single and I asked. No go. Maybe you have to do it in a branch.

They've been really good to us so far. Upfront, polite and direct. The loan CSR gave me his extension so when my wife was ready to apply we could call him directly. This was because I discussed her BK with him. I used it again to go over possibly app'ing for a LOC. I decided against it after our conversation. Once again, polite and direct answers.

Good Luck and check your PM.

Thanks. I looked up ING and current rate is 3% (Guess I missed that boat!).  I have some money in HSBC now at 3.5% but don't like to have all my eggs in one basket (or at HSBC for that matter! Smiley Very Happy )  I will take a look at what Emigrant has, as I really hate these hard pulls for savings accounts. Sheesh. CU/Bank, whatever...I know it is what it is, but I just don't see why they do it unless you are actually applying for credit.

Re: Alliant CU questions...

Great update. I was wondering if I should try them, instead of PenFed, within the next 6 months.

(Hoping they pull EQ, seems that they do this more often than not according to my research. Just waiting for a baddie to fall)
