So, I got a new Chase Sapphire Preferred last month, thinking I'd got the 40,000 point bonus, $95 annual fee first year waived deal. Apparently though, I applied without the annual fee waiver, because on 11/1, a $95 "annual membership fee" showed on my statement. I've never even seen this card advertised without the first year being waived, but apparently I wasn't paying attention close enough. I sent a secure message to see if it would be just reimbursed before the statement cut, and this is the reply I got:
Thank you for contacting Chase inquiring about the Annual
Fee.
Upon review, I see that the offer you have applied for
does not have an annual fee waiver for the first year.
Available credit card offers can vary and change at any
time. Chase strives to ensure that offers are clear and
assure our customers that, if approved for the card, they
will receive the specific offer terms that are disclosed
when the customer applied.
I regret to inform you that we are unable to waive the
annual fee.

Thank you
I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on Earth who has to pay the first year's fee on this card. Oh well, my mistake, but very annoying. I looked at all of the papers I got in the mail and none of them say anything about a waiver, and I didn't save anything from the actual application.
ouch, that sucks. why not try calling EO and ask about waving the fee?

Interesting news here. When I was deliberating apping the CSP right after my SWA approval, the only landing page that kept coming up made no mention of the fact that the first year's annual fee was waived. I got real leery real fast about this and went and searched for a new link. You must have been getting the same landing page I was..
I knew I wasn't crazy.
Just an update, I spoke with the executive office and they said they could not waive the fee, as the promotion changes often with some having the annual fee waived and others not. Even though I've literally never seen a promotion without it waived hah. oh well, lesson learned to always closely look at terms while applying, not just ads before and after!
I just was approved three days ago and the fee was waived. I applied direct from the Chase website.
