So just wanted to ask whether anyone's had a similar experience.
AmEx just CLDed me on my oldest account $13k -> $7500. I've been basically SDing the card most of the time. My FICOs are in the upper 700s, no lates, no derogs, haven't applied for any credit in at least a year. I do have a large credit portfolio (total CL ~2x my income) but like I said, I haven't applied for any new cards or CLIs in a year. There hasn't been any changes in my spending or utilization and I PIF all my cards.
Is this just AmEx tightening its belt and being more stingy with unused credit?
They can be stingy sometimes with unused credit. There was a post the other day about this. When was the last time you used the card?
I used it 2 days ago and I use it on a small auto subscription every 4 weeks
As an update, I called AmEx about this and they said that it's based on a periodic review and apparently the CLD was due to the usage pattern which is fair.
The CSR on the phone offered me the chance for a review with the potential to restore the CL if I volunteered some info. So he asked for income and assets then was able to restore my CL. I confirmed with him, no hard pull.
All's well that ends well. I guess AmEx could read the writing on the economic wall.
Glad you were able to get it restored.
You are not the only one that this has happened too, Amex just wants better usage.
Correct. This started becoming more common for members here last year with quite a few people getting 50% CLDs, many of which were restored with a quick phone call.
Glad to hear you got your CL back! 👍
I've actually been thinking about trimming my credit portfolio anyway. But this is my only MR card and also one of my oldest so I keep it for sentimental reasons and also for when Amazon runs those discounts when you use at least one MR to pay. I'm just surprised because I've never gotten a CLD/AA on it even through the Great Recession and even when I didn't use it for months on end during that period. It seems that lenders have really changed how they do business these days.
Glad you got your CL restored OP !
