Last month, I was approved for the AmEx Gold Delta SkyMiles card with an instant limit of $8k. I was shocked because I'm 19 and this is my third card, and before this, my highest limit was a $2k BoA Cash Rewards. I've heard about AmEx's famous 60 day 3x CLI increase, but is it going to look crazy for me to ask for a $24k limit when I never plan on taking this card above $1k? I know it would be great for my utilization, but is that a highball request? Should I ask for something lower, like $15k, or go for the full 3x? I have about another month before I get to 60 days.
Ask for the full 3x CLI. They'll counter assuming you qualify for one and with monthly $1k spend you'll get a CLI how much depends on the rest of your credit profile.
+1 just remember that their policy is “at least 60 days” or “at least 180 days,” etc... so be sure to ask on day 61 or later. Best of luck and don’t be afraid to ask for the whole 3X! Just wish I had known about that 15 years ago!
If AMEX asks for proof of income and you don't want to provide it, hit the back button and try again with a lower amount. If you repeat this process, you may end up getting several POI forms in the mail, but they can be ignored.
Don't be afraid to ask for what you want! Allow them to counter if they're the ones not comfortable but you're the customer and it's their job to make you as happy as possible.
