AmEx "Member since" question...I wonder if this would work...

My mom has been a member since. Well. Since a long time ago. I've been a member since 2007. If she added me as an authorized user, would I get the same member since date as her? Or if she added me as a joint user, would that get the same effect?

Would it give me extra history on my credit report making it appear as though I've been a member for a long time? Or would it actually change my "member since" date? Or both?

And in case this makes a difference, I wasn't alive when she first got an American Express card. Would that cause any red flags? I don't know if a fetus having an AmEx would set off any alarms...

well amex doesn't do joint anything, so au would be your only in. how they would handle the member since date, since you are already a member is a gamble.

good luck if you try, let us know how it goes.

Re: AmEx "Member since" question...I wonder if this would work...

my mom got sent a pre-approved offer with a "fake card" that said Member Since 95 on it. my dad's Amex (which she has been an AU on) has been open since 95. so yes, I think it would be great for your history, to answer your question.

You can be an AU on Amex and pick up the history for yourself when you get your own card. It's been discussed before on this board and/or the other big one. From what I recall reading, some had to call back a couple times to get a CSR who would help them. It's not always automatic.

Your situation is different, and I think it might be difficult to pull off. Still, get on the card as AU, wait a couple months or so, and then see if they'll "adjust" your membership date to reflect that AU card. It's worth a shot. The worst they might do is CLD you....FR you...revoke your cards....sell your soul... KIDDING! Smiley Wink Good luck!

Just got myself added. We'll see if it works. I know that on the log-in page it says, "Welcome Jaybird201, member since 2007", so we'll see what it says after I get added as an authorized user.
