Ok. That makes sense everyone.

I received the card end of March so connected my bank account sometime in April for my first payment, which was due the 18th or so.

Known issue: AmEx - New bank account cannot be used for 30 days

Maybe update the original headline?

This is common when the card is new. Once the 2nd statement clears you can pay as much as you want on Amex site. Until then like was mentioned you can call or do your own ach payment from your bank. Best of luck it will be fine.
