Hey everyone.. i tried looking for this question but was not able to get the answer i was looking for. Synchrony closed my account with a balance on it. There is no late payments. It was closed due to a payment getting returned, When i realized it had old bank info it was too late and the payment was returned. I did update the info and submitted another payment and it went through before the due date. I called and she said they can not reopen my account. I have to pay the balanace off and reapply again. My question is how long can i wait to reapply after i pay the balance off? The lady was unable to provide that info to me.. Thanks for any info

Was this a brand new account and the first payment was returned?
no had the account for 10 months all payments were paid on time, just this once was returned cause i had it on autopay and forgot to change the info
That's very odd that they would close your account after 10 months of good paymeny history and 1 messed up payment. What was the amount for? But I would say 6 months after you pay them off then apply.
it was for $300 on the christmas gifts i bought. i didn't understand why they did either.. when i talked to the lady she just said that it's a policy and there's nothing she can do. but i should reapply after the balance is at 0 but couldn't give me a timeframe on when to reapply and thanks for the response
and its still reporting on my credit report as in good standing just that it was closed by creditor and no missed payments
Sorry this happened to you, OP. Synchrony is known for this, and usually they stick to their guns about not reopening the account. Still it wouldn't hurt to make a few more calls and give it a shot with a supervisor or the risk department. I'm afraid I have not heard of anyone having success that way, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened.
I know this wasn't the case for you, but if you transpose two digits in your bank account number you lose your account! Yeah doesn't seem very fair. But these returned payments do cost them money and I imagine they take it somewhat seriously.
This is one of many reasons why pushing payments from your bank's bill pay is a much better idea. If you get the numbers wrong nothing bad happens.
thanks core for the info.. do you know if they are forgiving when it comes to reappling? i would like to have them again in my card file.
Uhhhg... This scares me. My credit Union changed hands at midnight on the new year mark and they changed my account numbers. I spent an hour removing my old "pay from" accounts on all of my CC's and Auto (except Barclay, can't figure out how to remove old checking account). This transition was done poorly and i'm praying none of my payments get returned. I waited a week or two before paying because I did'nt want any payments to go through after the cut-off. Now I paid and have 1 pending and praying there is no problem.
I started with Barclay... If I have a problem there I won't feel bad if they close it.
Sorry OP. bummer to put in all the work, AAoA and HP to lose it in such a short time.
I have heard "1 year" tossed around on this forum but I can't vouch for the truth of that. That figure was probably thrown out by some low-level rep who pulled it out of her chemical-induced stupor.
