Over 4.9 billion dollars in unpaid loans? No wonder they are checking people reports on a regular, and cutting them off when they see fit. They are trying to cut them off at the path!!

Interesting article. I am always surprised to see just how much the housing debacle is affecting the economy in general.

Re: American Express Has $275 Million Charge for Quarter

Interesting article. Thank you. I have decided to do PIF on all the cards that I use and maintain a 40%savings and weather the storm. From what I hear every where it is going to be gloomy in 2008. My stock portfolio fell 30% in the last 6 months. My 401K investments I am moving them to most safe locations.

Re: American Express Has $275 Million Charge for Quarter

Interesting:

Chief Financial Officer Daniel Henry said on a conference call today the rate that customers repaid loans worsened ``quite suddenly'' in December, leading to the change in 2008 estimates. The weakness was isolated to U.S. consumers, not overseas or business spenders, he said...........

``Credit-card performance will noticeably deteriorate during the year, given spillover from residential mortgages, weaker economic trends, and higher levels of unemployment,'' Fitch Ratings said today in a report on the U.S. industry.

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

OK  I won't do this Smiley Tongue (take that Amex).  But it sort of explains the F/R paranoia going on ove there.
