Since you have been an existing cardmember for a year, I would go ahead and app, I don't think 20% util is too high IMO, and since you pinky promised that you've been good all year I bet AMEX will be generous with an approval.
And even if they were to decline, there won't be a hard pull and you get your EX FICO and also your denial reasons as a consolation prize !
Haha I have! I swear!
I've gotten feedback from a lot of people who have previously said to app with 10% or less UTL, but then I've seen people with really high UTL get approved so I know it varies and of course my chances would be better with a lower UTL. But I am hoping with my history with them, and whatever is present on my credit report, I get approved for their card.
Another question, I've wanted the Gold card since day 1, can I apply for both? And if so, which should I apply for first? Or my question is, would I be even approved for a Gold card? I'll just put my credit info up here just in case.
My credit history:
Here is my credit history:
I. AAoA: 2.5 years
II. No Baddies whatsoever
III. INQs (1 year span):
(EQ) 2 *8 months old.*
(EX) 0
(TU) 2 *8 months old.*
IV. 20% UTL rate
V. Fako scores;
(EQ) 685 (FAKO)
(EX) 698 (FAKO)
(TU) 710 (FICO)
Thanks!

April 10th will be the day.
Haha I did! It's going to be 1 year on Feburary 15th? I should hold a party! I don't know how I did it either, I think because it's just such an amazing card and company I didn't mind just using that one ALL the time. But I'm hoping AmEx can pat me on the shoulder and give me a card with a nice CL on it.
Which card are you planning to apply for? And congrats on your upcoming 6 month anniversary!

+1
I heard that as well! That would be great if it was just a SP if I did get denied (which I hope I don't! Haha)

I'm sure you'll get it...after a year of solid history and I'm assuming no baddies on your CR's, I can't see why you wouldn't get it.
I'm going for the BCE, of course. If I don't get it at six months, then I'll probably just wait untilt the one year mark. If I do get it in April, I'll be done apping for AMEX for a while! I feel like if you're able to get an AMEX charge card and revolver, you've "made it" in the credit card world.

I'm really hoping I can! I always get nervous, I'm sure we all do though. Haha I say the same exact thing about American Express! Once you get a hold of one of their charge cards, you've made it! I'm trying not to apply as we speak because of the temptation, I've got to wait it out just one more month.
I wonder, should I apply for the Gold card first then BCE? Or should I not press my luck? I might have to start a thread inregards of this!
Nice! The BCE sounds like a great card to have, and who knows! You might be approved at 6 months! I've heard from many people that right at the 6 month mark and beyond is when to apply, so you've got more guts than I do. But like people have said, even if we get denied it's just a soft pull, no biggie. Which actually makes me just want to apply now, but I'm not going to, haha!
just go for it and see what happens theres alwaysa recon...when do u plan on doing it?

If they use the same pull on the Gold and the BCE I say apply for the one you really want first, then if you get it you might as well just try for the second.
I hope I get it at 6 months. That would be awesome. And the soft pull if I get denied is just great! Then I know I didn't waste an inquiry no matter what happens. My big thing is I don't want AMEX to freak out if I apply too early and FR me or something lol. But I'm the paranoid type.

That's true! I officially plan on applying Mid-March. I want my credit report updated before I apply? I was just approved for a Discover card, I'm sure it will report very soon, do you think that might make AmEx a bit uncomfortable because I just opened a new account? Should I apply before they see it pop up on my report?

BCE first for sure!
Haha wow I really think we're on the same page here, I get paranoid as well, especially with AmEx, I want nothing but perfection with them! With other lenders, I don't really mind, but AmEx is a different story. And exactly, I'm glad they just soft pull if your denied, it doesn't do anything bad at all. That can be true, what exactly is 'FR'? I know AmEx watches it's card members VERY closely, that I know!

FR stands for Financial Review. It's a really overblown and somewhat rare thing that AMEX does. Nobody knows what exactly triggers an FR, but they basically put a hold on all of your cards and require you to submit various tax records and forms, bank statements, etc. It's a highly intrusive (in my opinion) process that I guess they do to verify that you have the ability to repay all of your obligations and yadda yadda.
You either choose to comply with the FR or your account is terminated.
It sucks, but as I said, it's pretty rare. People still freak out over it though, like myself
