American Express Soft Pulls on Closed Accounts

Seems big brother is watching - I closed my last AmEx in late 2004 or early 2005 (I had 4 accounts).  I have currently no accounts with Amex nor any account balances. I've also opted out of any promotional offers on all 3 CRAs.

Just pulled my Experian Credit report and under soft pulls:

Wow! That's a lot of softing! If you don't have an acct with them, how can they soft you??? I thought that they had to have PERMISSIBLE PURPOSE. How do they have PP if you aren't currently doing business with them and owe them NO money???

Pre-approvals fall under permissable reasons. My EX is littered with softs from mortgage refi companies and credit cards that I dont have but have received offers from. Seems like AMEX may want the OP back.

There are NO Amex accounts still showing on any of my Credit Reports, open, closed, otherwise - I have no idea why they keep soft pulling me every other week.

The most I got softed by AMEX was twice a month, so... hot damn, that's a lot of softing lol
