American Express Website Question

How many accounts can you use to make online payments on your card? I am going to help a family member make payments on a card and want to add my checking account to make ACH payments through the AmEx website. Her name is not on my checking account. Do you think there will be any problems? I have not had a problem with other cards and I am just wondering whether AmEx allows that. TIA.

Re: American Express Website Question

Go to card management and you will know for sure. My recollection is about three.

NMN

Just checked on line and it is definitely three. If you add one , another would have to be deleted.

Re: American Express Website Question

I dont believe there should be a problem. The last time I checked a while back, they only requested routing number and account number. The only problem would be if the payment did not process because one of the numbers were off, AMEX would be on your back like no other and might use that against you.

Re: American Express Website Question

You might consider simply using your bank/credit union's own online bill pay service to make payments, and not put your checking information in her AMEX file.

I have a relative who's AU on a couple of cards, and I've made a couple of other online payments for him, but only from my own account. I trust him implicitly to not intentionally do something like make a 10,000 payment instead of a 100.00 one, and to not intend to select the wrong account if he were to have a few to choose from for payment - but I also know how often I've made idiotic errors when I'm not paying close attention, and I'd never want that burden to be on him. I'm excruciatingly comfortable with technology; he's not - and yet I still make mistakes.

By paying from your own bank/CU, you're ensuring that nobody else can inadvertantly take money from your account, or that no payments will be made when you don't have the balance on hand to cover it. Any errors will be your own.

Re: American Express Website Question

Thanks. I have a small secondary checking account that I had planned on using.

That's good. It's not like I know anything about mistyping 10000 - putting in 10K instead of $100. (And I've worked professionally in the area of human/computer interaction and user interfaces! D'oh! Smiley Surprised) That one took a little bit of explaning to fix. If there's stupid mistakes to be made... I've made 'em.
