American Express question

As some of you may know, I was approved for and Amex blue cash everyday card in mid March. Small 1,000$ limit, and I'm finding that I always use my Amex everyday card instead, mostly because of the much higher limit. After how long of absolutely not even 1 use will Amex cancel my first card? I will use it soon but. Right now paying down my Hawaii vacation and really didn't want another payment. Thanks guys!

Re: American Express question

Just buy a few groceries several times a month with it. Pay for a small fast food purchase.

Are both your bills due at the same time. What the DW and I do is stop charging on a card before the due date up to the closing date, and switch to a card that is at the beginning of a statement cycle. That way all new charges won't report right away.

Re: American Express question

Just use it for stuff you would pay cash for and twice a week pay off what you bought in full.

Re: American Express question

I agree with the replies above, just use it for grocery and gas or something, it is a great card for cashback!

I am not positive how long you need the card to then ask for a CLI but I would try after you've had the card for 6 months, which isn't too far off.

Ask for a $3k limit, as this is 3x the SL. This should help a little too.

+1

I will add that I've never read of anybody having Amex close a card for non-use, however I'll also mention that since most Amex cards have an AF, this isn't usually an issue.

I doubt they would be quick to close the card, regardless.  My Green card is mostly useless (other than getting my 'foot in the door' with Amex) so I make a point to use it every month or so.  Honestly, I've got other cards that I only use once a year (sometimes once every 18 months) and I've never had one closed for non-use.

I'm sure you'll be fine.  Smiley Wink

Re: American Express question

I just ask an Amex csr about this the other day. He told me that since use my BCP most if the time. It still counts towards my other Amex card that I never use. You can also reallocate the limit to the one you use the most if you like.
