Ameriprise to AMEX crossover question.

Ok, so I'm doing some advanced credit planning while I'm hanging out in the garden.

I apped Ameriprise Platinum card so that I could test drive the card before making a decision to get AMEX's Platinum card directly. I did so because of info shared in a few threads. I thought taking advantage of the airline credits, clubs access and Global entry/TSA Pre-check without having to pay the AF would be worth it. Then, if I decide to stay with it, I'll app the AMEX Plat card and, hopefully, grab a 100K SUB (I think it's like 75K-80K right now. Don't quote me on those numbers tho).

If I remember correctly, you will still qualify for the SUB at AMEX even if you've had a co-branded Plat card (Ameriprise). I guess, I'd just like someone to verify that please. AND, Can I triple dip on airline credits? Meaning, I grabbed the credits for 2017 and will also grab 2018 in January with my Ameriprise card. If I get the AMEX Plat, is it safe to assume that I will still be entitled to airline credits for 2018?? That would be a trifecta in my book and a reason go with Plat at least one more year. I just need someone to confirm that please.

Also worth noting, is I grabbed the PRG with a 50K MR SUB and no first year AF. So, together, I was able to grab $300 in airline credits (that I converted to GC) and will grab another $300 in January. That's $600 in GC with no AF. That will have covered the AF on the new Plat Card with AMEX if I find that it's worth it OR it will cover 2 years of PRC AF. I'm still not sure which way to go but, I'm going to drop one of them. I just need more information and do a bit more strategizing with my travel plans to decide which will make the most sense. Those SUB MR have me leaning towards Plat. I did promise myself that I will start doing more traveling now. I'm keeping that promise.

BTW, anyone know what kind of spend would accompany a 100K SUB on AMEX Plat? I think I received an offer for my business and it was something like $10K. I can't imagine they'd require that much on a personal account. Or would they?

Thanks for making it through my rambling. There's a method to my madness.

Re: Ameriprise to AMEX crossover question.

The personal targetted offers for the 100K Platinum usually involves $5K spend (the 75K offer is usually also a $5K spend), but some folks had offers for $10K spend on personal.  Some folks who get the standard 60K offer will go incognito and see a 75K/$7K offer.

The CardMatch offer seems to generally involve the lowest spending requirements ($3K rarely, $5K more common) but very few people have gotten that match.

No clue about the other stuff so I'm subscribing to stay tuned myself.

Yes if approved you can get the airline credit 200 for this year and 200 for next year along with the GE/TSA.  The Plat Amerprise/Schwab/MB/and regular Platinum are all treated as separate products and collect bonuses and credit respectively along with SUBs for each of those four variants if you so choose.  I actually just got the Amerprise Plat a few weeks back for just the same reason didn't feel like paying the AF for the first year as had the regular platinum prior which I don't currently have as got the 100k SUB from it then closed prior to year.  Wanted to give plat another try and also collect 400 in airline credits prior to AF hitting not to mention the 200 in Uber, etc.  Give the Amerprise a try and see if the platinum is a good fit for you and collect the freebies and then decide if platinum is good for you, if not cancel before the 550 hits in a year and all is good.  The reason the Ameriprise platinum is free for first year I suspect is the highest sign-up offer they have ever had I believe is 25k MR's, but that isn't typical normally their is no sign-up bonus, but the perks alone as mentioned are very good to give it a trial run.  hope this helps

The only time I've read that Amex hasn't considered this a different card is when people used leaked links for SUBs they shouldn't have. Amex started using "you've already gotten the SUB on this card" to recall the the SUBs.

Re: Ameriprise to AMEX crossover question.

Here I am a year later and it's decision time. Checked for retention offers and was offered $200 credit or 20K points. I declined because I looked at it like this:

-$550 (ameriprise 2nd yr fee) + $200 airline credit + $200 retention credit = (-)$150 net cost

(i don't really assign any value to uber, Saks or lounge credits because I don't really use them)

First year was great because I did double dip on airline credits and got TSA precheck for my daughter and myself.

-$550 (AMEX Plat new app) + 200 airline credit =(-)$350 net cost + $600 (est. value for 60K pts) = $250 gain (May be able to double dip that airline credit if I hurry. But will that throw up any flags?

And, of course, if a 100,000 offer showed up, that would be amazing. lol. But, as it stands now, I have officially cancelled my Ameriprise Amex.

Oh, and I read that someone said that if you cancel the Ameriprise AMEX, you can reapply for the same after 30 days and get it with no AF again. Can anyone verify that?

Thanks.

Re: Ameriprise to AMEX crossover question.

Have heard that about the ameriprise financial amex as well if you wait and reapply you don't get the AF although haven't seen any recent solid DP's on that.. Keep in mind if you value your relationship with Amex at all and the recent crack down by their RAT team you might want to tread lightly on taking advantage of such things as you mention being cancel for 30 days and re-apply again unless you want to forgo future bonuses on other cards with them or if the risk is worth the reward (550 af waived for another year).  Of couse you will take an AAoA ding and possibly a HP depending if you currently have another Amex card or not.
